3DS-specific Nintendo Direct coming this Wednesday

Nintendo promises to announce "the latest on Nintendo 3DS" this week.

Nintendo has teased an upcoming 3DS-themed Nintendo Direct for this week.

The publisher is promising to unveil "the latest on Nintendo 3DS" on Wednesday April 17. Gamers will be able to watch the event live at 07:00 PST/10:00 EST/15:00 BST.

No specifics were detailed by Nintendo.

During previous Nintendo Direct events this year, Nintendo has unveiled a suite of 3DS games for release in 2013: Pokemon X and Y, Mario Golf: World Tour, and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.

Nintendo has also used Nintendo Direct events to unveil new Legend of Zelda and Mario games for the Wii U, promising to debut both titles at E3 this year.

The publisher's next major 3DS title, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, will be released June 9 in North America and June 14 in Europe.

what I would really love to see is something about a new 3D Mario, the new Zelda (not the wind waker, but strictly a new one) and another Metroid entry. Also....something about StarFox could be very refreshing. Nintendo is having a hard time with the WiiU at the moment, so they need to pull of a nice E3 this year.

I don't ha ve a WiiU but I'm rooting for them. Nintendo is the only one, in my opinion, innovating and doing something new to shape and shake the industry a little.

I own a Wii U and even I am starting to not be able to defend Nintendo's decisions.  They HAVE to know how badly the Wii U is failing right now, why o WHY do they keep insisting on putting all of these great games ONLY on the 3DS?  This is beyond dumb to me and I am greatly considering selling off my Wii U just out of spite.  3DS?  Really?  You have a big flop of a console sitting there doing NOTHING!  Get your heads out of your asses for real, or I am out.

@Andrew1073 Hey, Nintendo's been in business for over a century, and they have been making consoles for 30 years now.  E3 is around the corner, they will focus on the Wii U most of their press conference, i'm sure. Nintendo isn't stupid enough to flop like Sega did back in the day.

next zelda please!

@KBFloYd Or new Metroid since Nintendo needs to make up for missing the series' 25th birthday.

@craigprime

But Pokemon was already announced. Release date for Bravely Default and some new games!

I hope it's game related.  Hopefully a new IP or some translations of overseas games.

It couldn't be hardware related, right?

I think the 3DS is at a good margin for awhile, and I got over the lack of XL colors.

A 3DS Lite with a better battery and a second analogue stick would be awesome.

@pcty What a lot of people don't realize is that making a 3DS model with a built-in second pad would splinter the 3DS install base.  No economically sane game developer would make a 3DS game designed around the use of a second pad because the only 3DS owners who could play it would be those with the 2-pad 3DS model or the pad pro add-on.

pcty

@kirbymaster5 They probably would. They would just create 2 different control schemes.

The DSi had a camera which the others DSs didn't and few games had features that could only be used on the later, so no that would not "splinter the 3DS install base" Nintendo already did it I think it could happen again.

@abHS4L88 Yes, just pokemon Black / White... Definetely not noteworthy

abHS4L88
abHS4L88

@pcty @kirbymaster5

Hardly any games did that, and for the most part, they weren't noteworthy games. Having dual circle pads would be a much bigger deal and it would leave a lot of the early adopters pissed off, especially those who'd be forced to get the Circle Pad Pro in order to play certain games (I don't want one since I have a case on my 3DS).

@pcty You can buy a Nyko battery pack for the regular 3DS (I have one and it is very good) and a second analog thumb pad is not really needed, since there aren't many games that support it. It would be pointless now. It would be better for the next system successor, though.

Not sure what they can reveal that they haven't already revealed... I'm not excited.  They usually end up being busts.

@SadPSPAddict @Coldpain @GSJones1994 @McCanISdown Well as a gamer on the go it really just doesn't fit in my pocket so I consider the new form factor a step backwards. They've sold tons of them so clearly SOMEONE likes them...I'm just hoping if they release a newer model, it will cater more to my marketing segment.

@Blanka13 The 3DS struggled out of the starting gate, too, but now it's going strong. The WiiU just needs time. It'll get there.

StarSfrife

@Thunderstarter @Blanka13 The real issue is 3rd party support. Historically Nintendo's 1st party games, while beloved, don't drive console sales. Look at the N64 and GameCube. Both had amazing 1st party support from Nintendo, and both platforms lost horribly to PlayStation.

@Thunderstarter @Blanka13 They said Smash will be at E3. Whether or not it will be playable is up in the air to speculation however, rumors have been floating around that it will not only be playable but there will also be a Beta out for it. With Namco Bandai's inclusion I can see this actually happening as they would like to try and balance the game a bit.

@Thunderstarter @Blanka13 I agree. The 3DS had a slow start and needed more support. Now it is getting that support. I hope the same for the Wii U.
