3DS sales nearing 6 million in US

How is this "limited edition"??  I got this same bundle (fire red with mario 3ds) at the same price on a regular day last January.... lol "black friday" deal.... yeah right.

Nintendo bothers me by not recognizing that their catalog library is the "killer app" and pricing it accordingly.  In the app-based economy, it seems too much to pay $5-$10 for a nearly 30-year-old game.

Between price drops and more games coming out this has become a great system. Handhelds are always more of a slow burner than consoles. Still smart phones have been a game changer as they mean Nintendo has lost the casual market they built up with the DS. I own both a Vita and 3DS and they are both great systems, though as of today I have to give the edge to the Vita in no small part on the strength of Persona 4 Golden. JRPGs have consistently for me been the most enjoyable games on hand held platforms for quite a while, even on smart phones/tablets. Between the DS and the PSP Sony's system was by far the stronger in this category (though the DS had some real gems) this time around they are rather more even, though for now P4G will be the Vita's unmatched killer-app for JRPG fans.

The red limited edition isn't a Nintendo 3DS XL? No deal.

Nintendo handhelds will always sell because they have catnip, even if the library is average.

Mines gathering abit of dust atm. Looking forward to scribblenauts unlimited, luigis mansion 2 and animal crossing though. So that should get me playing again. Just want some release dates. Come on on nintendo!!!

the 3DS is amazing but there is only 1 problem i have with the system... no bloody metroid or F-zero game on it =/ love resident evil tho, in my opinion better then RE5 and RE6 combined

The 3DS needs portable games

Im still waiting for the Vita to show me some great fuckin games before I purchase one.

Does that mean more & more kids will need glasses after staring crosseyed at their 3DS for hours on end?

ps vita need great games not bad games like black ops declassified!! i support ps vita because it's an awesome portable well done, but publishers, first and third party, must do great games!!! i really hope that killzone mercenary is the first fps to be really great on vita since is being made by guerilla themselves, i have my fingers crossed!

We need the new Castlevania game for 3DS and more RPG's, because Mario games are boring as hell :/

Why the hell Nintendo thinks Americans hate new colors and special editions with cool stamps?

That's good and all but I think they need to keep their foot down and give us more software. This year had some greats like Kid Icarus and Paper Mario but we need more. 2013 should have a good lineup with Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Luigi's Mansion, Monster Hunter 3D, but I want to see more stuff out of Japan like Bravely Default and Project X Zone. Personally I think that Castlevania game looks busted. I'm not a fan of what I've seen so far. Where is the sequel to the World Ends with You? Where is the DK, Zelda, and Metroid? 

The 3DS is great, no doubts there. Could it be better? Certainly. But the real proof of success comes when it is not a holiday such as Christmas...

I'm pretty surprised. I enjoy my 3DS XL much, much more than I thought I would. StreetPass is pretty awesome. Here in Japan, I get hit at least 10 times if I go to a public place. When I was in North America for a month, I didn't get hit even once. Of course, like everyone I've ever talked to, I never use the 3D...

While I'm not a fan of the 3D mode (I go cross-eyed with eye strain) the 3DS deserves the success it is getting. One of the smartest moves Nintendo made was admitting they'd made a mistake with the initial pricing and lowering it, which led to the massive boom in sales. Now, if only another company could see to admitting they may have also been a bit wrong in the pricing area ... :P

I've questioned a lot of my +$200 purchases. Not the case for my 3DS, it's a great piece of hardware that I have a ton of faith in looking towards future. I really hope Nintendo is dishing up a new Legend of Zelda for it.

The amount of software is really terrible. I bought my 3DS months back, and i do have a slew of games, but nothing has really happened since. There's a great lack of support from 3rd party developers, and my guess would be that the developers actually turn to the dreaded OS devices...

Bring on the damn games then! I love my mario, but it's not enough!

With all the games that's been getting released, I'm sure it'll be a hot seller on Black Friday or this holiday season in general.

The Nintendo 3DS is a success. It had a slow start, but that changed quickly. It is a great handheld to have. Thanks, Nintendo, for making it. I hope more awesome games come to it in the future.

I think nintendos handhelds have honestly outsold all other major consoles combined lol guess they know what they're doing!!

...yeah right... They're not going down without a hell of a fight...

...but sssshhhh!! don't tell the smartphones they can win the battle at any time if they start including gamepads with buttons... And maybe everyone will forget about Xperia and let the portables live a little longer...

I guess that's okay. Not very good, but it isn't a failure or anything like that. Portables handhelds just aren't that popular outside Japan, I think.
