N64 classic The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask becomes 300th title on Nintendo's retro-game download service.
One of the key features revealed at the official unveiling of the Wii back in 2006 was Nintendo's take on Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade, the Wii Virtual Console. Launching with just 30 games, the service has gone from strength to strength, with Nintendo updating the store weekly with new content.
Now the Mario Factory has announced that the critically acclaimed N64 classic The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask will become the 300th game to land on the Virtual Console and will be available for 1,000 points (£12.50, $12.50). The game follows on from the events of the N64's other Zelda title, Ocarina of Time. Players once again take on the role of Link to unravel the plans of Skull Kid, via a reliving of the same three days in the game.
Nintendo's download success also extends to its original title service, WiiWare, which recently celebrated its first birthday. More than 81 games from more than 40 developers are available to buy on WiiWare, up from the initial offering of eight at launch. Adding to the list is Square Enix, which, having launched one of the first titles for the service, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, is back with new tower defence game Crystal Defenders R2 available for 800 points ($10, £10), while Agetec makes its virtual console debut with Silver Star Chess for 500 points (£5, $5).
Uh, 1000 Wii Points is $10, not $12.50. Nintendo's conversion between dollars and points isn't stupid, remember? *coughs* Xbox Live Marketplace *cough* Please know that I have all respect for the Xbox Live Market, the conversion of dollars to points is just stupid though. Nintendo's is more natural. You know, it makes SENSE. On a note more closely related to this article, it's cool that Nintendo has made good use of Virtual Console. There are still some games I'd like to see on there but they've given out a good selection, and it only keeps growing. Great job Nintendo!
This is one of the best games ever made on any console. I'd buy it for a 100 pounds if I didnt already have the original N64 game and the Special edition cube version....and I've got 3 versions of Ocarina of Time. Maxxed out all the user accounts and started playing it on an N64 emulator on my pc. Hahahaha. Its that good though.
at metal militia, its about $70 around here used, if your lucky. Its getting rare evidently. I bet you could prolly get in on ebay around $40 though
sounds like a good deal, but how much does the LOZ Special Edition for the Gamecube now cost? If its around $15, then I would totally go for that, because it had Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Zelda 1, and Zelda 2. But still, Majora's Mask on the VC is pretty sweet! /\_/\
@ VenomRitual Eh, some rare-but-popular games can easily get up to $50, if Nintendo ported some of those to the VC we could get them for much lower prices.
Well, say what you want about the Wii (and I've said a lot myself, mostly negative)... but this is a landmark that gamers can be happy to see. VenomRitual is right, but this opens up some of those games to people who just won't do that. As a gamer, I can't see how this is anything but good for the gaming community.
I agree, this is awesome for Wii owners. Ha and funny because I just re-bought this game not to long ago (Yes re-bought) And so far I'm having a blast from the past. Magora's mask is awesome. And I still have the guide!
Haha, Majora's Mask will FOREVER be one of my favorite Zelda games. It was such an epic game at the time, and still is..
Wow, why get this for 1000 Wii points when you can get this, OOT, TLOZI, and TLOZII for the same price on a GCN disc, and play it on a Wii? That is what I do.
Lol @ GarysLaptop If they can finally bring out MM after all this time, I'm sure we will see Earthbound 2 re-released.....someday...
@ Mr_Fujiv1 Maybe you feel that older games have "passed their time", but what's the point in even making games if they will just stop being played one day? Should people just stop watching classic movies and their most memorable tv shows because ten years have passed since they were still on-air? No. A game can't be judged by time.
This might actually make me play my Wii again since I never picked up Majora's Mask when it first came out on the N64
The time mechanic was clever and well used. This game pushed a LOT of side questing since the main quest only had getting the 4 masks.
Finally Majora's mask is o the virtual console. i hope they fix the sound problems it had on the gamecube disk.
Good for people who could stand it, I guess. That had to be my least favorite N64 game(I never played Superman 64), I didn't like the story and I couldn't stand the time limits and odd gameplay...=/
haha, when i saw this i like *@!!? and had to immediately run to my Wii, finally this game is on VC.
1000 Wii points costs 7.00 British pounds to buy. I dont know about the States but in the UK, no, 10 quid doesn't equal 1000 points.
how can you say boo i wanted mario kart do you know how good this game was on the N64 i remember then they were selling it for 60pounds and people were buying it! this has to be one of the best games ever, and i mean that. But it has past its time now so let it rest.
1000 points is just like 1000 pennies or copper coins duh already have this for 64 and gamecube though
All right! Keep it up Nintendo. I hope you can bring G.I. Joe games (nes versions), TMNT games (from Konami) and more.
@REVOLUTIONfreak: Start craving some Earthbound!! =] And yay, finally we get Majora's Mask. I only got to play it a little when I was younger
HELL YES! I've been waiting for this game to come out on the Wii VC. FINALLY! This will tide me over for SSB64's Wii VC debut next month (I hope). Wait, can we download this now? If so...
Aren't Nintendo points 1/100 of a dollar? Where'd these new prices come from? Someone either miscounted or is too use to Microsoft Points.
I thought it was 1000 = $10... at least it was this morning... typo? or did they raise the points price at the same time?
I have it for the n64, but my controller sticks are loose and it's hard to play. If I get around to getting a wii I'll surely pick this up and finally be able to play it!
This game is soooo awesome!!!!! One of my fav. Zelda games EVER! I got it for N64 in Gold Cartridge! FOR FREE!!!!! I've completed it 100% It's awkward how I got OoT and MM in N64 and GC! I must download it on Wii, but I don't have enough points...
