PS2 Modem and Hard Drive at US Launch
The North American release of the Sony PlayStation2 this fall will be complemented by a modem and hard drive. Details inside.
According to Bloomberg, an add-on modem and hard drive, both developed and released by Sony, will be available with the PlayStation2 at launch this fall. Sony Computer Entertainment believes the accessories will allow the PlayStation2 to directly compete with the Sega Dreamcast, which currently has the lead with its built-in 56k modem.
Additionally, SCE president Ken Kutaragi previously mentioned that the company plans to ship ten million PlayStation2 units by the end of the fiscal year 2000 - three million to North America, four million to Japanese retailers, and three million to Europe.
SCEA plans to reveal more details on the North American launch of the PlayStation2 during E3, a game-industry trade show, in Los Angeles from May 12 to 15.
