Creative and Ensoniq Tie the Knot
After the initial announcement a few weeks ago, the final acquisition of Ensoniq by rival Creative is complete.
Creative Technology announced that it had completed the acquisition of one-time rival Ensoniq Corp.
Ensoniq has been an innovator in the music and PC audio market for years and one of the first audio companies to offer a PCI-based sound card, AudioPCI, for consumer PC and PC OEMs like Gateway 2000 and Hewlett-Packard. Currently, Creative has no PCI-based sound cards in its lineup.
Sim Wong Hoo, chairman and chief executive officer of Creative said, "We are very excited about the inclusion of Ensoniq's PCI audio solution in the just-announced sub-US$1,000 Hewlett Packard Pavilion. We expect ongoing design wins in the OEM market and we expect to leave our competition in the dust!"
Creative's acquisition of the privately held Ensoniq was paid for with $77 million. GameSpot News is expecting that Ensoniq's PCI technology will help the company move away from the dated ISA standard that it currently follows with its SoundBlaster line of audio products. Currently, the Ensoniq AudioPCI retails for about $50.
