E3 06: Live-action Metal Gear Solid movie confirmed

In his official E3 2006 catalog, MGS creator Hideo Kojima announces a big-screen adaptation of the legendary Konami series is in the works.

LOS ANGELES--When excited attendees left yesterday's Konami press conference, they were handed a catalog for Studio Kojima's forthcoming slate of games. However, many didn't know it, since the brochure was a clever imitation of the newsletter handed out each day at of the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

On the front of the Kojima catalog was a "breaking news" box, which bore the headline "Solid Snake...On the silver screen?" The blurb below it read, "In a late-breaking surprise announcement, director Hideo Kojima revealed that his most famous creation--Metal Gear Solid--is getting the live-action treatment."

Given the semicomic nature of the fake E3 newsletter/Kojima Productions catalog, many thought the story was a joke. However, on the last page of the pamphlet was a page-long article on the project, which showed that Kojima was dead serious when he made the announcement.

After assuring readers at length that German director Uwe Boll will not have anything to do with the project, as rumored, Kojima talked about the film. "I have received many offers to adapt Metal Gear Solid. It has taken a long time, but we have finally settled on an arrangement," said the revered designer. "False facts aside, a movie project is underway. I have finalized a Class-A contract with a party in Hollywood."

Kojima did not mention the name of the party, a release date, or any potential directors or stars. However, ever since the original PlayStation Metal Gear Soild, the English-language dialogue of game hero Solid Snake has been voiced by Hollywood figure David Hayter. Though a prolific voice actor, Hayter has enjoyed greater success as a screenwriter, with credits for X-Men, X2, and the forthcoming Watchmen under his belt.

    and just because hugh jachman has played in scifi movies does not in anyway make him any better to play this part. and i dont know who David Hayter is but apparenty if hes an actor hes been in movies. seriously if anyones on crack its u

    devoid27 u think we're on crack for saying kurt russel lol do u even know y everyones saying kurt russel its because kurt russel is snake. the snake character came from kurt russels character in escape from new york and escape from la. so stop going around saying we're all on crack. ur prob one of those kids that crap in a bottle and put a balloon on it and inhale the methane from the balloon to get high.

    omg i hope they don't mess this up. sooooo many terrible video game to movie ports. cough resident evil cough. as long as they stick to the mgs storyline i'll be happy. im so scared!

    um yeah snake should be played by snake.... kurt russel thats where they got the mgs snake character from, but thats if they're gunna do the snake from sons of the patriots, or old snake, i dont think they should do any young snake unless its for a prequal.... and Ziegfried fyi escape from new york / La both came out before metal gear so yeah hideo and david took it from that movie...

    I will go to see this movie as well as Tekken in theaters. No waiting for the DVD like x-men 3. This film will be epic. I have played every MGS game and I have always wanted them to be turned into a movie. This should be good since Hideo Kojima will be more involved with the project than most people who want their video games to be made into movies.

    I think you guys are on crack. Ive seen a **** load of movie and trust me, Hugh Jackman wuld be the best actor for the following Metal Gear Solid movie. Because Hugh Jack is the one who played in most of the Sci-Fi movies, he has an egressive character and looks, he has a very deep smokers voice and he is good in action and also physically more developped that Kurt Russell. Stop talking about ****ty actors like David Hayter, he never played in a feakin movie in his freakin life. Thomas Jane can't do the role because he is not such a joky/sarcastic/vulgar character like Hugh Jackman is and always will be.

    Who could they possibly get to play Snake? David Hayters Voice could be used but for the actuall actor i have no idea who could pull it off. I wonder who would play Ocelot?

    OK...Kurt Russel? NEGATIVE! Despite sounding similar, he looks nothing like Solid Snake; Kurt Russel might make a thuggish Liquid at best. Just because Hayter based Solid Snake's voice from Russel's character of Snake Pliskin (Escape from NY/LA) does not instantly make Russel a good candidate for this role.

    this is great news, however if they dont get Hayter to play snake i BETTER see Kurt Russel seeing as his "Escape from New York" and "Escape from L.A." movies were almost identical to a MGS kind of situation and Kurt just looks almost EXACTLY like Snake and on top of that he sounds ALOT like him aswell... of course they could always do an over dub having the actor say the lines in the movie then have Hayter do the lines over in a studio and then put the Hayter audio over the actor audio kinda like Star Wars so we may still hear Hayters voice

    I was watching Doom again these days and then seeing Reaper (Karl Urban), with that tactic style fighting the Rock, made me think that this actor would be a really interesting Snake on the big screen. He really looks like Snake and already made this movie, Doom, which is not only a movie-out-of-a-game but also one with a lot of action ant tactic... Kurt Russell is nice, but he's too old and MGS would looks like a complete clone from Escape from NY.

    WOW.!! nice!! at long last....! I've been waiting for this game to be a movie since i started playing MGS. I wish the story will be the same just like the game. That would be fun.! and one more thing, i would suggest Hugh Jackman will play the role as snake coz the character that he played in some other movies reflects the personality of snake. Same with the voice of David Hayter, they almost sounds the same.

    Ok one of two things can happen with this film Only major Metal Gear fanatic fanboys and girls will see the movie and we will have to watch as our favorite game will be butchered on the silver screen or this movie will grap impressive attention and blast away at the box office. The only thing that i want is that the dude from Escape from New York whom famously played Iriquire Pliskin does not appear in the movie that goes for Bono as well and Fabio and all ripped german Actors.

    i think they should make a cartoon 1 cuz its lloks better cuxz u can make them do alot of stuf.....but a human movie its iight but i rather a cartoon movie...but thts my opinion(duh)
