Current-gen R6 Vegas craps out

Tom Clancy's antiterrorism unit heads to Vegas for Xbox 360, PS3 only; current-gen console versions sent packing.

What happens in Vegas, stays on next-gen consoles. Such will be the case when Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 hits The Strip later this year.

Ubisoft had originally planned to release the game on "next-generation and current-generation consoles," like it did with another Clancy game, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. However, details on the game sent out in April simply stated that the game would be headed to "next-generation consoles." More recently, the company's E3 lineup listed only Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game.

When contacted about the absence of the current-gen versions of the game, a Ubisoft rep told GameSpot, "All development has been shifted to next-gen platforms."

No reason was given for the lack of current-gen editions, but one doesn't need to look too far for a possible explanation. While the Xbox 360 version of GRAW did exceptionally well in retail, the Xbox and PlayStation 2 versions combined for just a fraction of the 360 version's sales.

they should put it on pc too...hate first person shooters on consoles. don't like using the remote for those types of games. unless i get a keyboard and mouse for ps3, but that's just more money to spend

Duh, they literally were not even the same game.

From my view point, the current gen. is that x360, along with gamecube, and ps2, all of them is current gen. console, and PS2 still rule hard.

There really is not chance of this game coming to wii.... seriously. Wth? Xbox 360 and ps3 both support HD and wii doesn't. Wii will require extra time and extra work to focus on different gameplay and etc... Is that really worth it? How many poepel really going to buy it?

What do you meant?? ......... X360 is just a spin-off of current gen. console, the tur next gen. is the PS3!!

I feel like a spoiled little kid. First, we get GRAW. Then Oblivion, FEAR, Rainbow 6: Vegas, Gears of War, Too Human, Mass Effect, and Half-Life 2: Epsiode One. AND they're going to make Xbox Live free. "A kid in a candy store" doesn't describe it. Maybe; "A kid in the best candy store in the world with a million dollars." There we go.

It comes a time when you have to move on. Stop holding on to the pass. The Next-Gen is where we are at and where we are trying to stay on track to. Making games for the Current-Gen is a waste of time and also a waste of money for the people who by them. We all know that Christmas is coming again like always. Microsoft is sure to have the shelves stock for the holiday season. So all those young boys and girls that didn't get a 360 or still hasn't gotten theirs by now. Will sure to have it and along with a PS3. So we all know that Next-Gen titles will not have a chance of selling this holiday season. And let’s not forget about the release of that Wii thing too!

Why should next gen games be on current consoles? Great news to hear because they can't go the full advantage if putting it on PS2.

To be honest since I bought my 360 I havent been able to realy play my PS2, Xbox or GC its like going from the Xbox to the origional PS.

you get used to a certain quality of graphics (particularly as i have a HDTV with 5.1 sound) its kinda weird going backward. I recently tried playing Burnout 3 on my Xbox and just couldnt see where I was going properly... how the hell did I used to play games like that?

good, they are going to eventually have to stop making games for the now "last gen".

    good news

That great forget the current-gen consoles, and go all the way into the next-gen consoles. Because the current-gen is old, go to the newer consoles. Company will not be able to make that much money on current-gen consoles. When all three of the next-gen consoles or out. And people don't want to buy current-gen games and wasted there money. There saving up there money for next-gen games, and consoles.

I appeciate them not trying to leave the current-gen gamers behind, but some games are really meant for next-gen technology only.

This is a case of a self-fulfilling prophecy. The current gen versions of it were poorly done, and shockingly enough (that's sarcasm), sold poorly.

If Ubisoft spend the effort to make decent versions of it, they would sell well.

It only makes sense that Ubisoft is looking towards the future of gaming and knows that the current gen consoles, time is limited or short.

Ok. Unless you already have a PS2 game 50%+ in dev dump your current gen products. PC and Next Gen is sooo much hotter.

Not surprising. It's better to focus specifically on the next-gen versions rather than having to bother with the current gen versions, especially with the current gen consoles already getting canned. After seeing how GRAW on the current gen consoles turned out, I bet developers are going to start putting their full attention to the next-gen versions, which is a good thing.

On the one hand, it's a shame because it's one more death knell for current-gen gaming. On the other hand, it's confirmation of more development coming for next-gen games. Good news for 360 owners, better news for those waiting for PS3 and Wii.

The reason GRAW did so well on 360 is that we were duped by the over-hyped reviews. I always forget that I own that game.
