E3 06: Family Guy detailed

2K Games' upcoming adventure in Quahog features three playable characters, different types of gameplay, trademark pop-culture parodies.

Fans of Seth McFarlane's Family Guy cartoon had mixed reactions when hearing about 2K Games making a game based on the show. When any license makes the leap to gaming, the interactive result can be a shell of what it was derived from.

The debate will no doubt linger on with the announcement of the first details of Family Guy, which is scheduled for release this fall on current-gen consoles.

Gamers will be able to switch back and forth between three characters: bumbling patriarch Peter Griffin, matricidal maniac Stewie, and martini-swigging canine Brian. Each playable character will have its own storyline--Peter is out to stop Mr. Belvedere from taking over the world, Stewie goes up against his archenemy Bertram, and Brian tries to escape his wrongful imprisonment.

Family Guy is loaded with tangential joke after joke that pokes fun at pop culture, and the 2K title will be no different, but in the game the jokes will be interactive. Gameplay is described by 2K Games as a combination of "combat, stealth, and puzzle-solving gameplay" throughout familiar locations in the show's setting of Quahog, Rhode Island.

Family Guy has not yet been priced or rated. Look for more details during GameSpot's E3 coverage. For more information on the Family Guy TV show, head over to TV.com.

Took them a while, didn't it? South Park had 2 games out shortly after it's initial release, and The Simpsons.. well... Lets hope Seth Macfarlane and crew colaborate on this one. It is a good licence.

Please don't make this like Futurama.

It would be better if you could play as the superhero versions of the characters from Season 3's "Viewer Mail #1"

Absolutely LOVE the show, but I'm not liking the screenshots...looks a little weak to me.

The Game's graphics remind me of the futurama game that came out a couple of years ago. That was a pretty decent game, in my opinion, and I hope that Family Guy: The Game is better than futurama and not just a crappy cartoon-game rushed out in time for Xmas, like the many simpsons games we love to hate.

Ugh that cell shading is horible. And usually when a game has lazy visuals, the gameplay is sure to follow.

GIGGITY GIGGITY ALLRIGHT!!!! Hey, don't diss it. I will bet that this is WAY better than either SImpsons: Road Rage or Simpsons: Hit & Run. The 3-D Simpsons characters frankly stunk, imho.

At least it's cel-shaded and matches the style of the show . That alone makes me feel slightly optimistic.

I wonder if they will hire their staff of manatees to write the script. Or perhaps they will try to make actual jokes, instead of having the usual out-of-continuity cutaways, that are interchangeable and have nothing to do with the plot jokes.

people.. its just a damn video game.. if its good, fine.. if its not its not.. no big deal.. family guy rocks and hopefully it will be at least decen.., no high expectations, but it would be kool if the game was good and sold well just out of spite to all the constant b*tching douche bags on this site..

2K Games have produced a few good games also some dodgy ones but as long as Seth McFarlane has enough involvement, the comedy should be great, gameplay questionable as what tv shows are made into good games anyway these days. Saying that I probably will jsut end up buying it for the jokes unless its the usual short game rushed out to fill wallets.

you never know it might be good, if they get the orginal actors in and do the parody cutscenes in cartoon form, also if they do video game parodys (peter trying to fit into master chief outfit)
