Midway joins Revolution

CEO David Zucker reveals company is developing for Nintendo's upcoming console; game slated for release this year, details scarce.

LOS ANGELES--One of the phrases every Nintendo fan is anxious to hear is "We will have a Revolution title this year." Those exact words were spoken by the CEO of Midway Games, David Zucker, in a one-on-one conversation with GameSpot yesterday.

The console, which has been shrouded in secrecy since it was unveiled at May's Electronic Entertainment Expo, hasn't had much in the way of announced games for it yet. For the Nintendo faithful, even the smallest tidbits of information on Revolution games are as valuable as gold.

While Zucker didn't give away the game's title, it might not be what gamers expect. Midway currently has four next-gen games announced: Unreal Tournament 2007, a TNA-licensed game, The Wheelman, and Stranglehold. Both the TNA game and The Wheelman aren't expected to hit stores until 2007, and Unreal Tournament 2007 has been confirmed for this year--only for the PC.

This leaves Stranglehold as the likely option for Midway's first Revolution game. Further evidence comes from the game's trailer shown during Midway's presentation last night. The game was previously expected to be released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, but a bombshell was dropped at the trailer's end, when footage stated that the game would be coming to "ALL next-gen consoles." [Emphasis added.]

However, today Midway reps told GameSpot that the aforementioned project was not Stranglehold, but "another project." The rep admitted that Stranglehold may come to the Revolution at a later date (after the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions), but no plans are set yet.

Expect more details about Midway's unnamed Revolution project at this year's E3.

If UT2k7doesn't come out on PS3 (as promised), $ony will be eating Midway's lunch. They shouldn't break their promises.

Glad to hear. The more developers for the Revolution the better. I just want to hear more about the cradle for the Revolution remote. I hope it comes with the Revolution so the market does not get divided. This way, developers can use either if they want.

Lets all remember, its not the amount of games available in the shops for the Revolutions launch that matters, its the fact that we can download (for a fee) all the Nintendo games that we love from all their other systems that will make the REV an instant success.

Man, there's a lot of developers joining the Revolution. That's good, more fun games to play

Lets just hope that the capabilities of the Revo aren't too weak to handle some of todays gaming engines. If it can Unreal 3 that is good news, but if it can't what do they expect with next years gaming engines?

Honestly, is there any developer who ISN'T interested in making a rev game? The dev kits are dirt cheap and production costs are much lower. They can take more risks and make different games.

I may finally get to play something that isn't just a pretty PS1 game.

I like nintendo but its just they've srewed up to much. SNES the best consol ever made so what's with the failings of the N64 & GameCube?
    Not enough GAMES!
On the other consol there's a mass of games but not for nintendo!
AND WHAT WITH THERE CRAP CONTOL PADS!!!!
Snes pads were the best in the world sony knew this made a pad just like the Snes with two extra buttons & later the anolog sticks.
The GameCube Pad Is The WORST PAD EVER! needs another shoulder butoon & the layout is just stupid! With its Big GREEN buttonin the middle of it! IT JUST GETS IN THE WAY OF THE OTHER Bottons
AND that poor excuse of a D-Pad NOOOOO its to small can't do anything with it. whats with that?

In all words i'd like to see nintendo back up top like it should be but............
with all them CRAP kiddy games, JUST BASICIALLY CRAP GAMES anyway & hardly any good games. ( total of 15 reasonable games) thats Just Not Good Enough!!

Midway, please make a true sequel to SF Rush 2049. The Rev controller is begging for this game. It was great on the DC and it could be even better on the Rev.

Very skeptic about Stranglehold coming to the Revolution. Even Epic themselves don't have the Rev SDK to run Unreal Engine 3.

Yeah, remember Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles (REV), the Grasshopper studios title, and the other game that's supposed to be a test before the big Resident Evil? Not to mention plenty of Namco/Bandai/Banpresto love for Nintendo.

And people were worried that Nintendo would never again have good third-party support! Looks to me like developers can't wait to get involved with the Rev, just like Ninty predicted! This shall be a great generation to be a Nintendo fan, indeed!

Since the Rev. can use the Unreal Engine 3 it is quite possible that UT 2007 could be done on it. It may not be as pretty as the PS3 or 360 but the controller would definitely give it an edge.

Bya variant I meant that the Power Glove intended to do what the Revolutionīs controller intends to do. In fact, the Power Glove had more complex functions than the Revīs pad...and it also had the regular NES pad functions.... I just hope Nintendo pulls it out this time and states the Revolution as a really interesting option, not just a gimmick machine with "Mario this and that" games....Now, Iīm selling a Virtual Boy, a R.O.B, an GBA e.card reader and a GBA to GC link cable...... offers anyone?
