TGS 2005: Kirby creator to make Metal Gear Solid 5?

Director Kojima jokingly gives a welcoming invitation to Masahiro Sakurai to develop series' fifth installment.

TOKYO--Metal Gear Solid director Hideo Kojima announced during the Tokyo Game Show that he plans to retire from the series after the release of MGS4: Guns of the Patriots. And he might have already found his replacement.

During an additional Metal Gear Solid stage event at Konami's booth, which featured a guest appearance by Masahiro Sakurai, Kojima jokingly stated that one of the future plans for MGS is to have the famed creator produce the fifth installment in the series. While Kojima's statement of course was not completely serious, he acknowledged the former Hal Laboratory developer as one of the few great video game designers still left in Japan. Sakurai is a big fan of the Metal Gear series as well, so while he might not necessarily become MGS5's producer, this indicates some possibility that he might get involved with the espionage action series in one form or another.

On a more serious note, Kojima also disclosed during his stage show two core plans involving the future of the Metal Gear Solid franchise. For one, he plans to develop more games that are unique to handheld gaming machines, and secondly, he wants to expand MGS in the online gaming sector.

    GOD NO. Anyone is fine but NOT Sakurai, HE SCREWED UP SMASH THAT'S ONE SERIES ENOUGH.

    brilliant. i wonder who the next MGO expansion pack will hold. gotta have a raiden type of game play, although it would be very very hard to make it good.

    awsome, i love mgs and to end a good thing would really suck! kojima is a genius and he needs to keep making exclusives for PS3, His games always have an amazing production value so u always get ur moneys worth

    Go for Metal gear 1 and 2 Remake!! I want to see the epic battles of snake vs grey fox, and snake vs Big Boss in ps3 graphics, not that lame NES sh** were big boss looks like Sean Connery.. :S There's a million reasons why they should go for a remake. Play as newbie Solid Snake and know a little more of his past; fans want a remake; fans like the Ninja, so playing with grey fox until he gets captured would be great.. they even could remake the two games into one massive game.. GO GREY FOX!!!

    Metal Gear Solid is without a doubt the greatest game EVER. Even though Solid Snake is gone and most of the other important chraracters they should continue to make more MGS series.! i would get all of them.! i hope KIRBY does a great just as HIDEO KOJIMA did.! plus i think all the Metal Gears and Metal Gear Solids that are not on the PS3 should be remade and show more of the story in all of them. Playing with The Ninja, Meryl, Big Boss all of them, it would be Really SWEET.!!

    It won't.

    There won't be any Solid in "Metal Gear Solid" anymore, that was announced. Nevertheless, "Metal Gear" might continue being in the title.

    I agree with the metal gear 1 and 2 remake, that would be great.
    It would be cool if you could play a little part with grey fox before he was the ninja.. Continuing the series without snake or big boss just doesn't make sense..

    mgs4 was the best game on ps3 and probabably gaming history. so if snake has to go for mgs5 to come out then snake has to go.

    I agree with Condor665. They should go back and cover zanzibar land cuz i feel they left me in the dark on what happened thur. It could be a great addition and help fill in what happened thur cuz they didn't really say much about it.

    absolute crap it should end at 4. They said MGS4 was going to be that last one so leave it that way. The way I see it, if your not gonna play as Snake then forget it. If they do something stupid with it and ruin one of the best game series ever then they all deserve to rot in hell.

    not really looking forward to this.

    MGS4 went all out and it ended alot of chapters.
    to bring in a whole new cast and a whole new story will be to much. It couldn't be mgs5 if solid not in it.....

    a remake of the metal gear 1 and 2 would be nice thou.
    may be remake them both and put them on the same blu ray???? or as a bundle or something like that...

    Here you go. MGS5 will be about Raiden saving Sunny from the Patriots. But he won't be equipped with a sword, it will take place a year or so after the Big Shell. He will not hesitate because he will be better trained. You will play as Raiden throughout the whole game............I WISH MGS5 WAS LIKE THAT! SH!T!

    If thay do make a MGS5 it shoud be a remake of the first meatal gear game set in Zanzibar land it would make more sence than being set after MGS4

    If theyre gonna do this they better do it right. I liked playing as raiden although most didnt but why not give meryl or johnny a shot at the main character. preferrably meryl

    this prob isnt mgS5. lik itll b metal gear (sumthing) blah but i hope that its lik snake's replacement or lik successor

    Damn I used to hate Hideo Kojima for spraying how much of a great game designer he was in the Metal Gear games but now that he's going I just feel like having a breakdown. Johnny would be fine if he was the next snake since he is surprisingly better looking then nearly all the other characters in the game and they could just say he got injected with Nano Machines but I'd like Raiden more because he's the god of sword fighting while at the same time he uses older military technology.

    I'm sure there's only one way they could screw MGS5 up... by making it port with the 360. I mean, making Raiden the next main character wouldn't be a bad choice because they really don't HAVE much choice in the matter other than to make a character even MORE hated by the fans than Raiden. So, I'm guessing Raiden would be A OK for MGS5. God, they'd better not make a new character...

    Jonny's possible. Just kidding. WHY DOES HIDEO KOJIMA HAVE TO LEAVE THE MGS SERIES???!!!!? They didn't explain about the perfect soldier stuff that Ocelot was talking about in MGSPO i think. I just finished playing MGS4.

    I think maybe johnny will be the next snake....joking, making online better can be a quite good think to explore..but getting another main char it will be a new generation of mgs, remeber that solid snake history satrted in 1998 in the mgs for psx....so I dont know what kojima will do, but I am sure it will be great, like MGS4 ending

    LOOK! metal gear is not gonna stop and it's not going to the crappy system( even though I have 1) X-Box.....and it's not gonna be the same with out sneake.....well we all played mgs2...raiden!...maybe it will be ok.....damn

    I agree with Leria because the main storyline and characters of the original Metal Gear Solid was by far the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!REMAKE MGS1!!!!!!!!!!!!REMAKE MGS1!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    You know what I would REALLY like to see? Remakes in 3D of the first two 1/2 Metal Gear games: Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, and Snake's Revenge..... that's what I would really like to see.

    This most likely isn't true,
    I heard that mgs 5 you play as grey fox and you can use this zip-wire when enemys come and come down and chop off their limbs!!!!
