Star Trek star James Doohan dies at age 85.
The sci-fi community lost one of its leading lights today when Star Trek star James Doohan died of complications from pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease at his Redmond, Washington, home. Doohan played the irascible Celtic engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in the original Star Trek TV series, seven Star Trek films, and in a cameo in Star Trek: The Next Generation. He also appeared in several Star Trek games, including Star Trek: Generations. He was 85.
