Final PS3 more powerful than E3 demo?

[UPDATE] Japanese site says final Cell CPU will run 25 percent faster than demo machine; first PS3 dev kit spotted.

Back at Sony's PlayStation 3 presentation at E3, the company and its publishers showed off a number of demos and presentations, some of which were running in real time on a developer's prototype machine. Naturally, one of the questions that was raised by the audience was whether the actual console--which hits stores in spring 2006--would be able to run its games with as much graphical integrity. The answer is yes, according to Web site ITmedia, which reports that the finalized PS3 will be exceedingly more powerful than its current developer's machine.

[UPDATE] ITmedia revealed that the Cell chip used in Sony's PS3 developer's kit is running at only 2.4GHz, just 75 percent of the machine's final spec of 3.2GHz. The report also reconfirms that the graphics processor unit used in the E3 machine was not the RSX chip that will be used in the final product but is another Nvidia GPU, possibly the just-announced GeForce 7800 GTX. The article also appears to be the source of an unconfirmed (but convincing) image of a PlayStation 3 dev kit, the first such picture to be made public (pictured).

While the exact technical specifications of the GPU remain a secret, ITmedia reports that it uses the PCI Express bus instead of the PS3's Redwood bus interface licensed from Rambus.

dude, i pray that 'best software manufacturer' bit was sarcastic.

Plain and simple, PS3 will kick ass. I've been saying ever since the debacle of a release we saw with xbox that Microshaft is sticking their nose where it doesn't belong. Not to take away from 360, its a powerful system, but if i want a computer i'll buy a computer. If i want a gaming console I'll go with the pro's and get a playstation.

Hail to the king baby.

lmao... wow..
Is that guy serious? "Will the games be revolutionary?"
You have to have the intelligence of a hermit crab and the life span of one too if you think like that. Lol, in other words people like that are really stupid, and just never seem to cease to exist.

I believe the ps3 WILL deliver and every idiot who's rooting for the xbox, is going to see the ps's glory and transfer their respect to Sony.

Every xbox preview or review I've seen always sports HALO. Like it's the only thread of life the xbox has. Even if the idea has nothing to do with halo, they "widdle" in that title just to show its previous reputation. WAKE UP MICROSOFT!! STOP LIVING OFF OF HALO AND MAKE ANOTHER TITLE YOU CAN BOAST ABOUT LOL. And no, I don't wanna hear about perfect dark because that game looks ugly and didn't seem to sell to you expectations, did it? =P

Anyways, more to the subject, this topic was about the playstation's speeds, not the revolutionary games. I'm sure the games will show how to really have fun with a console. Revolutionizing predictions... lol, hell that's for microsoft people, and others with odd controller designs at nintendo =]

Whoa... sorry about the rant... I just hate people are obviously rooting for the xbox or nintendo revolution, and just come to play station things like this and make it look bad.

I just thought someone should turn around and make them look bad =]

Out of the three new consoles, it looks like the playstation 3 will be the most powerful? The question on my mind is will the games be revolutional or not? mmmmm!
