Marc Ecko Getting Up on PC and Xbox

Atari's latest financial report says the previously PlayStation 2-exclusive graffiti game will now tag two more platforms.

When Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure was first announced in May 2004, it was assumed that the graffiti game would be released for more than one platform. However, that changed in January, when Atari, the game's publisher, confirmed it would be a PlayStation 2 exclusive.

Now, it seems Getting Up will be hitting up more than one platform after all. In a financial statement released today, Atari now lists the Collective-developed title as coming to the Xbox and PC. While the PS2's release date remains fall 2005, the two new versions are listed as coming during Atari's 2006 fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2005, to March 31, 2006. When queried by GameSpot, Atari representatives confirmed that Getting Up would be released for the PC and Xbox.

The news means a much larger audience will be exposed to Getting Up, which puts an urban spin on the stealth action genre. Rather than playing as a commando infiltrating an enemy base, players take on the role of Trane, an up-and-coming graffiti artist. In order to get a rep in the fictional metropolis of New Radius, Trane must "get up"--that is, paint graffiti murals--on a plethora of walls in the city. The more visible--and dangerous--the walls he paints, the greater respect Trane will earn, allowing him to progress farther in the game.

Trane will be voiced by hip-hop artist Talib Kweli, cofounder of the duo Black Star with Mos Def. Getting Up will also feature a host of real-life graffiti-art legends, including Cope 2, FUTURA, OBEY: Shepard Fairey, Seen, Smith, and T-kid. GameSpot's previous coverage has more on the game.
