Jaws Unleashed tangled in the Net
Majesco's big fish caught live on the Web; game based on Spielberg's classic bites into the PC, Xbox, and PS2 this August.
Gamers surfing the Web may want to be on the lookout for any looming dorsal fins headed their way. Majesco today announced that the official Web site for Jaws Unleashed is up and swimming. The Web site features game information, screenshots, news, and an official game trailer.
The game, based on the 1975 film Jaws, will be available on the PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 2 this August. Developer Appaloosa Interactive has already had its feet wet in the underwater animal department, because the studio previously worked on the Ecco the Dolphin series.
In Jaws Unleashed, gamers won't play as film hero Police Chief Martin Brody (played by Roy Scheider), but rather, they'll play as a shark, reminiscent of the terror that haunted the waters around Martha's Vineyard. After snacking on the son of a corporate environmentally unfriendly CEO, gamers will be hunted by shark hunter Cruz Ruddock and marine biologist Michael Brody, son of Martin.
The game is set near Amity Island, where Jaws took place, and it features 10 destructible environments for sharks to get their grub on. The great white can perform vicious biting attacks and tail whips, and it can even leap out of the water. By eating fish or nosy divers, gamers can replenish energy lost in attacking fishing boats and killer whales. The mission-based game also features free-roaming gameplay, as well as side missions, such as timed destruction and stealth challenges.
Jaws Unleashed is awaiting a rating from the ESRB. For more information on the game, wade over to GameSpot's previous coverage.
