Midway announces Unreal Tournament 2007
Next installment in Epic Games' popular sci-fi shooter series will ship for the PC in 2006 and will be on display at E3 next week.
While Xbox owners got a fresh injection of Unreal action last month with the release of Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict, PC owners will have to wait a little longer for their fix. Midway Games today took the wraps off Unreal Tournament 2007, the successor to the highly praised Unreal Tournament 2004. Like all previous Unreal games, UT2007 is being developed by North Carolina-based Epic Games. It will be based on the developer's much-ballyhooed Unreal 3 engine and will be released for the PC in 2006.
"UT2007 will be a major evolution for the Unreal series. Fans will be blown away by the next-generation gameplay, modifiability and visuals that Epic's Unreal Engine 3 technology will bring to the franchise," said Steve Allison, Midway's chief marketing officer. The game will be viewable by the public at Midway's booth at E3 next week.
As outlined in GameSpot's exclusive preview, Unreal Tournament 2007 will once again feature the sci-fi action that has made the series popular. According to Epic president Mike Capps (a video with whom is available below), UT 2007 will "be a mix of UT 2004 and the original [Unreal Tournament from 1999]." Though it will likely not feature UT 2004's less-than-popular domination mode, the game will sport deathmatch, team deathmatch, onslaught, assault, capture the flag, and one-on-one duels. The game will also sport an all-new mode, conquest, which will feature a new style of gameplay, according to Epic.
