TOKYO--Square Enix announced today that it will release a new game for the PlayStation 2, Heavy Metal Thunder. The company has only announced the title of the game, and hasn't yet released any screenshots or revealed any details of the game, including its genre. However, during the game's announcement in Tokyo, Square Enix showed off a short but fast-paced animation trailer featuring robots and jets, which seemed to hint that the game will be very different from the fantasy-oriented titles that the company is best known for.

Square Enix's announcement of Heavy Metal Thunder was made as part of a presentation to reveal that the company will sponsor a new Heavy Metal TV show series named Heavy-Meta san. The show makes its debut in Japan every Tuesday at midnight starting on April 5.
