Area 51 invading PCs?
According to its official Web site, Midway's upcoming shooter may be headed for PCs this year.
Gamers and conspiracy theorists browsing the official Area 51 Web site may have noticed something peculiar. On the bottom of the page, alongside the familiar PlayStation 2 and Xbox logos, is an unannounced visitor...a PC logo.
The game has always been announced for the PS2 and Xbox, but no official announcement has been made for a PC version, and Midway reps were unavailable for comment at press time. We know the game will be shooting up the PS2 and Xbox early this year, but it's anyone's guess as to when it will be released for the PC.
Area 51 is an adaption of the arcade light-gun game of the same name. Gamers will explore the fabled military research facility while attempting to solve the mystery of a viral outbreak in the top secret center. The first-person shooter will support online multiplayer modes on the console versions, such as deathmatch and capture the flag.
The game will feature the voice acting of David Duchovny, better known as agent Fox Mulder from The X-Files, who contributes the voice of the game's hero, Ethan Cole. Rocker Marilyn Manson will also contribute his voice to the game as Edgar, a tiny alien who helps Cole.
PC gamers looking for a little xenocide will just have to wait in the meantime. But the truth is out there, and we'll have the information for you as soon as it's released. For more information on Area 51, check out our previous coverage.
