Spider-Man 2 shipments top 2 million
Activision has shipped more than 2 million copies of the movie tie-in since its release.
Activision announced today that it has shipped more than 2 million copies of Spider-Man 2 to stores since the game's release early last week. The game was timed to coincide with the movie's theatrical release, which busted box-office records over the holiday weekend.
While Activision's release announced units shipped not units sold, analysts had predicted the game to be a standout during the characteristically slow summer months. The game probably owes some of its success to the film's phenomenal showing in theaters this past weekend. Spider-Man 2 the movie broke box-office records by raking in $40.4 million on opening day and $115.8 million over the weekend. The previous record was set by Spider-Man in 2002.
Featuring an open-ended game design, Spider-Man 2 lets players control the superhero as he swings around the city following the movie's story or branching off on side quests. The game is currently available for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, and PC.
