Vanguard: Saga of Heroes to be premier XNA title

Sigil's upcoming MMORPG from EverQuest will be the first game developed on Microsoft's unified platform.

While speaking to GameSpot today, Xbox business and marketing manager Aaron Greenberg revealed the name of the first game being developed on Microsoft's new XNA platform.

Technically, though, the name itself isn't new.

The first title to be built on the combined Xbox and Windows development platform will be Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, a massively multiplayer role-playing game from Sigil, the studio founded by EverQuest creators Brad McQuaid and Jeff Butler.

Vanguard was originally announced in March as a strictly PC title. However, when asked whether, given its new XNA DNA, the game would be also available on the Xbox--or even on Microsoft's next-generation platform--Greenberg demurred. "It's way too early to say anything about that," he said.

However, later at Microsoft's E3 press conference, J Allard, chief of the Xbox group, said Vanguard would be available on "all XNA platforms" and said it could "be played on a PC with an Xbox controller."
