Viewtiful Joe eyeing PlayStation 2
Capcom announces it is porting its popular GameCube brawler to Sony's console.
Hot on the heels of its revelation that Viewtiful Joe 2 will not be a GameCube exclusive, Capcom also announced that it will release the original Viewtiful Joe for the PlayStation 2. Due in stores this coming fall, the Sony version of the game will be rated "E" for Everyone, just like its Nintendo cousin.
Viewtiful Joe is the most innovative creation in video games, and we are thrilled to bring it to the millions and millions of PlayStation 2 owners, said Todd Thorson, Capcom's director of marketing. The combination of a classic side-scrolling brawler and state-of-the-art Hollywood-esque special effects makes Viewtiful Joe a one-of-a-kind game.
Marketing spin aside, Viewtiful Joe was one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2003. Created by Steel Battalion producer Atsushi Inaba and Devil May Cry director Hideki Kamiya, the game followed a Japanese movie geek who gets sucked into an Ultraman-like film. Once inside, he becomes a superhero himself as he battles numerous baddies in cel-shaded 2D and 3D environments. GameSpot's review has the full rundown on the GameCube's Viewtiful Joe.
