Microsoft announces new Japanese Xbox bundle
Second Platinum Pack will include the console, two controllers, a DVD kit, Halo, Crimson Skies, and two free months of Xbox Live for $188.
TOKYO--Microsoft has announced that it will be releasing its second Xbox Platinum Pack on May 27 in Japan. The 19,950 yen ($188) Xbox Platinum Pack 2 will come bundled with the Xbox console, two controllers, and two games: Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Halo: Combat Evolved.
In addition, the package will also come with the Xbox's DVD playback kit and two free trial months of Xbox Live. Microsoft is also planning to give gifts to people who purchase the Xbox Platinum Pack 2 and use the Xbox Live services, though details are unannounced at the current time.
With its new bundle, Microsoft seems to be aiming to boost summer sales. "We hope that more customers will be able to play these unique Xbox games with this affordable package," read a Microsoft press release. "With a price of 19,950 yen, this is an ideal package for beginners which lets them enjoy games both online and offline." To date, the Xbox has met a tepid reception in Japan, with sales lagging far behind the Nintendo GameCube and Sony PlayStation 2.
The first Platinum Pack bundle was released by Microsoft back in late November 2003 in the hopes that it would spur sales during the holiday season. In addition to two controllers, the DVD playback kit, and two free months of Xbox Live, the 19,800 yen ($187) package came with Project Gotham Racing 2 and Halo: Combat Evolved.
