Phantasy Star Online for the PC announced
Although it will bring PSO to the PC, Sega does not have any plans for cross-platform online play at this time.
Sonic Team has announced that it will release Phantasy Star Online for the PC. The game is a port of Phantasy Star Online Version 2 on the Dreamcast, and it will not include the new features in the upcoming GameCube version. The word-select system will cover the previously listed five languages--English, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish--as well as Chinese (both Cantonese and Mandarin) and Korean.
The minimum specification requirements are Pentium III 450MHz and Direct3D video card. Regarding online network play, though no final decisions have been made, the company intends to separate the servers between the Dreamcast, GameCube, and PC versions. The monthly fee for the PC version has not been disclosed, though it is expected to be higher than fee for the Dreamcast version. Phantasy Star Online for the PC will be packaged in two CD-ROMs, and it is scheduled for a release this winter in Japan. No North American release date has been announced at this time.
