Dreamland Chronicles no more

Mythos Games confirms that its turn-based tactical combat game, Dreamland Chronicles: Freedom Ridge, has been cancelled.

Following up on a post in the Mythos Games Dreamland Chronicles forum, Mythos Games has confirmed that its turn-based strategy game, Dreamland Chronicles: Freedom Ridge, has been cancelled. The developer would not provide any specific reasons for the cancellation.

Dreamland Chronicles: Freedom Ridge had been hailed as the spiritual successor to X-COM. It used the same kind of squad-based tactical combat, but it added more-advanced 3D graphics and a sophisticated physics engine. The game took place on a futuristic sci-fi Earth after an alien invasion had crippled human civilization. Players assumed control of a small resistance force and could capture enemy bases, free hostages, and save the world.

For more information about Dreamland Chronicles: Freedom Ridge, take a look at our in-depth preview of the game. Dreamland Chronicles was previously scheduled for release at the end of 2001. Bethesda Softworks, the North American publisher of the game, commented that it was surprised to see the recent post regarding the game, and that the company was kept informed about the game's development through Virgin Interactive, the European publisher. We'll post more information on the cancellation as soon as it becomes available.
