hell yeah i can finally buy back some of the wii games i traded 2 years ago like twilight princess and smash bros. (Biggest mistake ever)
[UPDATE] Nintendo confirms "Nintendo Selects" series, new pack-in game for soon-to-be-cheaper console.
Source: See below.
What we heard: Rumors of a $150 Wii have been around for several weeks now, with initial reports having the price drop scheduled for May 15. However, this week the speculation took a new twist, when Kotaku reported that the new console would be bundled with Mario Kart Wii and its steering wheel peripheral. Currently, the now-$170 console comes with Wii Sports Resort and Wii Sports.
Speaking of Wii Sports, the gaming blog also reported that the sports minigame compilation would soon be part of a line of budget-priced games called "Wii Selects." The line of games, which will cost only $20, will reportedly include Mario Super Sluggers, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Late Tuesday, Nintendo World Report uncovered artwork (pictured) that appeared to confirm both sets of rumors. Several budget Wii games, actually called "Nintendo Selects," were shown, including Twilight Princess, Wii Sports, Super Sluggers, and Animal Crossing: City Folk. Box art of the new Wii bundles, which will be available in black or white, were also on display.
The official story: "Nintendo does not comment on rumors or speculation."--Nintendo rep.
Bogus or not bogus?: Looking not bogus, given the authentic-looking nature of the box art. So anyone looking to buy a Wii and some games in the near future might want to hold off until after the 15th.
[UPDATE] Nintendo today confirmed the rumors. The Nintendo Selects range will include the four above-noted games, and the Mario Kart Wii bundles will replace the current Wii Sports franchise bundles. Nintendo also confirmed that the new black Wii wheel--shipping with the black Wii--will be available separately for $10. All of the new products will be available on May 15.
I hope Galaxy 1's also a select, I plan to buy it soon and half of its current price sounds good to me.
Drop Smash Bros price. I love Nintendo games but hate how they stay full price years after release. Mario Kart DS is still $35.
@AvatarMan96 *thumbs up* I can relate. By the way, your comment is probably more comical than you think :D
Has there been any mention as to when they're going to launch the "Selects" line? There are a good number of titles I wanted to buy.
@mjc0961 I know what you mean, though over here, where I live, it's 'Platinum', where the games are sold in silver boxes, rather than red.
This is much needed, though the budget price on titles should have been done sooner. Hopefully they would add more to the list.
All I have to say is, it's about damned time, Nintendo. It only took you 5 years to come out with a Greatest Hits selection. This time, you really should have taken a page from Sony and Microsoft much earlier.
well..just means a new console..as known already is about to come out..the hd wii or whatever.. see nintendo ds - ds,3 months later,dsi,6 months later..,ds1blahh blahh..as soon as you buy one..a new one is announced to make the one you already have useless. well..atleast the wii stuck around for a bit before they made it obsolete. (got mine when they we're still in $400 price range.) well..atleast when they do the hd wii..they better make it for 3d tvs or someting..and maybe beef the gfx up too. (just because it is in hd..does not mean the gpu is really beefed up much more, hence you did not see resident evil 5 on wii..lol) oh yeh..back to topic..wtf? these games shoulda' been 20 bucks end of first yr after their release! damn you money hungry nintendo!! that is all, carry on.
:) Everyone keeps complaining about how Twilight Princess's price didn't drop. Why would they ever do such a thing, you ask? Well it still sold, didn't it? :P
The line of games, which will cost only $20, will reportedly include Mario Super Sluggers, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. =============== What took so long for Nintendo to do this?
Nice time to get Super Smash Bros. Brawl! Ive been waiting to get that for the longest time already!!! @FrankSpankit that is so true same goes with Super Smash Bros!
Twilight Princess for something less than the original launch retail price? It's about damn time... Nintendo needs to review their messed up logic on how long something has to be out/how many sell before making it a "greatest hit". Twilight princess should have been 20 dollars 3 years ago. I mean, look at Gears of War...XBOX exclusive...30 dollars for GOW 1+GOW2+GOW2 addon.
Hhhmm. Animal Crossing for $20 sounds alright. I see Wii sales increasing by 50% after May 15th. I wonder what they will show at the E3.
Nintendo are desperate to make some quick cash before they release wii2, that's what I think if they're releasing the only good wii games for twenty bucks and making the console itself cost less than a psp
Wow, Nintendo FINALLY gets another Player's Choice? About damn time.'mm ut The first Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime Corruption need to be on that list as well. And Zack and Wiki.
Yay!! Now I will finally buy Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess new if it really will be like 20-25 bucks........
Ok so let me get this straight. The Wii is so bereft of games that Wii gamers get excited when they re-release their old crap from older consoles, and re-release original Wii games. Umm, how does that work?
Cool, now i can finally re buy Zelda and brawl. lost them in a house fire and didnt find it worth it to repurchase at $50
@RossRichard You do know Nintendo had a system like this for the NES, a decade before the Playstation was even thought of? And this is coming from a Sony fan. [facepalm]
Wow! I can finally get Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I have been waiting for this game to drop in price since I got my wii a year ago.
Unless RossRichard is full of sarcasm, which might be the case, Nintendo had a greatest hits line on the Nintendo GameCube called 'Player's Choice'. Got a great deal of good games below 30 bucks back then...
Im glad twilight princess is there , but where is the ridiculous over priced New Super Mario Brothers, or mario galaxy 1/2.
wii sports for $20 is a little silly to me... I think it should have been bundled with mario kart since most people own it already and even the new owners could buy Mario Sluggers or animal crossing which both will have more life then wii sports. But hey $20 isn't that bad so no reason to complain.
long time indeed, hell it was crazy to still see Wii launch games at 49$! way to long for this but happy that its finally happening, maybe now i will replace that mario kart game my daughter broke
LOL Wii is cheaper than 3DS... and has actual games that I'd enjoy playing... I wish I didnt give my money to Nintendo for the 3DS, I'm having a tough time looking forward to anything thats even coming out, save RE Revelations, Metal Gear, Mario, and Zelda... and only one of those is coming out any time soon. Milk was a bad choice. I immediately regret this decision
