Peter Brown jumps and soars through this video review for New Super Mario Bros. U for the Wii U.
This game looks like Yoshi's story for N64 with slightly smoother graphics. How they fooled you all into paying full price for this "modern"mario game is beyond me.
@Dredcrumb9 Yeah, and Halo 4 looks like Halo with slightly "smoother graphics" or God of War Ascension looks like God of War with "slightly smoother" graphics. What the hell do you expect from a 2D or a 3D game?
I love MArio and Zelda and all the kiddy Nintendo characters but they don't fit in the HD modern game world imo. Nintendo 64 was the last superb console nintendo made. Wii, gamecube, and Wii U are all filled with mediocre titles that try too hard to hold onto the past. Anytime I play a new nintendo game I end up turning it off and going back to my NES, SNES or N64.....none of the older systems are great graphically but they are so much more fun to play. If you want a nintendo system, go with NEs, SNES, and N64. If you want a next gen console, stick with PS3 or 360. Nintendo Wii is not worth it.
@Dredcrumb9 Maybe some people prefer family games over blowing other people's guts out. Have you considered that? Probably not.
I really want Nintendo to make another Super Mario Sunshine game to the Wii U, that would be the ultimate game for me :)
@theAllez99 if you want a nintendo system, you are better off purchasing a NES, Snes, or N64, the games are much better. If you want a modern console, Wii U, Wii and gamecube are the worst of the modern consoles.
NIce, despite the fact that it looks like an old ps3 game....
Is it to much to ask for a Xenoblade-like with graphics like those of FF13 ?
"It's the right way to jump start Nintendo's journey into HD"........Except it looks like a wii/3DS game.....anyways. Mario looks fantastic as always, always fun, always enjoyable, it just dosen't surprise me anymore. Well deserved 8.5. Enjoy your shiney new WiiU!
the wii u is an interesting concept, i expected a little more from the new Mario, however still looking as "Nintendo" as ever, and i do love a Mario game. Hopefully a good OLD mario-kart will return too keeping the old style of play i hate the new versions.
"you can use the gimmicky ipad controller to put plataforms to aid your partner or yourself.. and that's it."
That's.... hmm... cool I think.
I want one of these, but here is the problem I have and is preventing me from buying one now. The system is right on par with my 360 as far as power is concerned and they want me to pay 349 for the black version with only a 32g internal drive? To me there is not much here to make me go invest in a new system other than the Ipad style controller.
I have everything else offered to me already and the only thing I would be getting from this system is Wii backwards compatability and motion controls etc.I think it is overpriced right now and it may sell well through Christmas, but after that I see a serious price drop coming so why should I pay full price now? I still want one,but do not want to get screwed in a few months price wise.I would also have liked Nintendo to have made it Matted Black as the glossy piano black will be a finger print magnet and look nasty all the time.I think it is best to hold off and wait until a price cut and better colors come out:P
@JasPlun The 32G version comes with a game as well, the fact that the WiiU is expandable i.e. you can use an external hard-drive for more storage is a massive pro, the premium isn't really about the extra storage... As for what it offers, it's different. The fact that it's power allows the Wii U to have the same level of 3rd party support, along with Nintendo's first party titles is a savouring prospect for me - who needs two consoles anymore? Along with the new innovative ways to play I think bearing all that in mind it makes for quite an exciting system.
I agree on the price though, I rarely buy any piece of equipment at launch, it's wise to see how it handles reliability wise, and from a price perspective, I'll get one after the first price drop and a stronger library personally. Not to say it has a weak launch line-up, but it's only going to get so much better.
I don't have the Wii U so just wondering from the owners. What are your thoughts about it because I am a Mario fan (and probably from my picture) was thinking of the Arkham City Armored Edition. Cheers!
They know not to drastically change the games, alienating the fanbase and ultimately killing the franchise. Hi, Sonic!
@BladeStrike1234 Yeah, that's called not releasing anymore games if there is nothing to change.
So, Nintendo....Super Mario Bros for the Wii U and no comments or use for that big fancy controller of yours?
The game can even be good....but I must say I'm disaponted...
@flipecapela Yeah but it's basically the same game between the Wii, DS,3DS and WiiU. It also doesn't help that their release dates have been fairly close to one another.
@Slim_Lyrics That's exactly what I say about Call of Duty and yet people still judge me.

Omg it's the sexual thumbnail Yoshi ! Horny bastard made it into game, why isn't this rated M for mature?
People these days...
"Mario has been the same game for years, they never change anything."
Maybe your argument would be valid if you'd have actually played any of these games in the last 10 years. Otherwise, don't even bother complaining like your comments mean anything to anyone.
I am sure that if this was hyper-realistic with absolutely no gameplay changes, you'd be all over how big of a difference it is. As long as Nintendo keeps the same art style for Mario you'll be ignorantly convinced that nothing has changed.
Whether you're judging a book by its cover or a game by it's graphics, there is very little difference between the brain power required. Don't insult your own intelligence.
It's fine for games in a series to be similar, but this takes it beyond that. This game has the same playable characters, the same enemy designs, the same stage locations and the same kind of music (part of the video had the exact same desert them ripped straight from SSMB Wii).
And I'm someone who played Mario from the Beginning. SMB1 started the series. SMB 2 went in a radically different direction as a modified Doki Doki Panic and had a completely new attack system. SMB3 returned to the Mushroom Kingdom, but introduced many new gameplay elements. Super Mario World left the Mushroom Kingdom and went to Dinosaur Island, which had new types of enemies and stages. See my point here?
@Dekanis Hey, I have no problem with them keeping it the same.
I have a problem of them releasing the same thing 6 times in a row. Problem not with quality but with quantity.
@Dekanis I don't even bother hyper realistic games nowadays but rather we want to see at least the art direction gone.
So far all your argument is to point out this game is definitely new with while retain its style, why don't they try something new, like Mario beat Donkey Kong again to save Princess Peach? Its a Wii U, and why Nintendo is doing the same gameplay mechanic with no improvement whats so ever?
Nintendo tell us that Wii U is a hardcore game platform, but what they did for us? Not much other than shelved out Wii games with better graphics and more levels to make it less obvious as a remake, have you played Smartphone games? Cut The Rope, Where is Perry? Alex House? Bad Piggies. Those games will look absolute shit on console, but their art direction game design for player is some of the most innovative and major leap forward, i was dishearten that majority of my console games are actually the same, just longer, bigger budget, better graphics and badder ass character and well advertised, but basically all are either hero with jockey heads or space marines on steroids that shoot people!
I originally hate smartphone games, but I see good design and actually unique games that you can only find on smartphones, cause indies could not compete with the monstrous AAA that pump AAA games. Sure you will tell me a lot more smartphone games are shit, but good ones are actually really good, not just all Angry birds......
Oh look! NEW Super Mario Bros on Wii U, I definitely gonna get it and I have no Wii U! Super Mario Bros with the NEW sticker! Definitely awesome to get the NEW sticker as well!
Remaking the same game, over and over and over and over again. No wonder nothing Nintendo does has any interest to me since the Gamecube.
Sounds like this is good or maybe even better than the Wii version.
However will it be memorable in the long run?
Alright I have no seen this game beyond this review but I bet i could describe most of this game.
You go through worlds with in an attempt to resuce peach from bowser. World 1 is the grassy traditional world, 2 is the desert, 4 is the ice world. There are boo houses with disappearing platforms and boo that only chase you when you look away.
There is an 8th world after you beat bowser that has the only really challenging and well designed levels in the entire game. There are aslo 3 star coins in each of those levels that you have to collect to get 100%. You also have to beat the game once as mario and once as luigi. You then unlock the secret final level.
There are little mini-bowser types in towers in every world that take 3 hits to kill.
That's all I can think from off the top of my head, but I bet you it's all right!
@Tremblay343 Holyshit, how do you know that?!? Can I ask you, when the fable Dreamcast 2 will be released????
@ThatOneGamerGuy Back then Sega was kicked out of the competition and never came back, Nintendo dominate the market and do whenever the hell they want, cause nobody is competing with it and gamers look for them as god. Well at least now people can choose to get Wii U or Xbox 360 or PS3 or PC or Tablet.
Ahhh, Isn't that great to be a consumer nowadays, who get to buy cheaper console or hardware, unlike the old days, where the first gen Gameboy Advance without backlit is about 1000 Ringgit (USD 350) (yeah I bought it at that price) Just to play Yoshi Island, Mario Kart, Marioland and Pokemon sereis, now the compact fold up version just under RM 88 (USD 23) and kids still don't want it...... cause kids are not desperate for it nowadays, even the 3DS, I guess its the US and Japanese are all crazy over it, cause back here kids play tablet, parents call them smart....... And if kids play 3DS, parents call them bad, stupid and will have no future......
So sad, be a gamer in Malaysia is like being a drug addict, where the penalty is death!
