Jumping into action again

User Rating: 8.5 | New Super Mario Bros. 2 3DS
I'm a fan of the mario series and this is one of those ones that are good but doesen't jump high enough to be great.

I'll explain the highs of the game first, the music as usual great there are a couple of memorable songs as well as a remix of one old song or two.
The graphics are great as usual I like the designs of the levels as well as it's animation, the 3D effects work great.
Each of the levels and enviorments are all different, mainly based on elements of the earth. Gameplay works well as usual, I love the fact that the racoon power is back which is a power up I haven't seen since "Super Mario Bros 3" which was 22 years ago, yeah that's a hell of a long time. The game at a few point even pays a little homage to "Super Mario Bros 3" from the houses with the games and one where you can chose which power up to have and one to take with you, and those P buttons you hit to turn blocks into coins for a brief time. But the one new power up I really like is when you turn yourself, enimies and blocks into gold for a brief time, which is great because it means you have the ability to double the amount of coin colecting while destorying both your enimies and obsticles. It works even better when compined with your fire flower power just a little tip.

I love the fact that the Koopa/Boswer Kids are back, though I not really sure their kids anymore due to their design they look like teens. But whatever, I always liked those villains in the Mario franchise whom have been around since "Super Mario Bros 3". So good have them back again, as usual their colorful each one has different methods to try to execute you that go along with their different personas. Each boss battle is always a different chalange and colorful.

But now comes the lows, as to the reasons why this would have to be one of my least favorite mario games, because despite a working utility machine it's has pumped out little water. One of my problems is there aren't as many power ups as in the original. But my main problem is that the game it's short and it's easy at least I thought so. It's just for a new mario game I expected a little more, let alone certain new chalanges yet to be conquered.

Overall, New Super Mario Bros 2 is a soild follow up that I think is a worthy edition for fans of the series to add to their collection and for rookies of the series a good place to start, but for us experenced fans the game does leave a little to be desired, hopefully the third game will make up for that.
