Story

You are Captain Olimar from Hocotate, a sort of delivery guy in deep space. When you decide to go off on a much needed vacation, everything goes terribly wrong. One night in deep space you are struck by a meteor and crash land on a distant planet. On your first day there, you notice a red thing protruding from the ground on your quest to find your missing ship parts. The red thing, called an "onion" spits out a red seed. In a few moments you are able to pluck it from the ground, and your first "Pikmin" is born, along with the rest of your adventure!

Gameplay

As you know, Pikmin is all about your, well, Pikmin. Without them, nothing would be possible. There are three different kinds in all. Red-Great fighters, and are resistant to fire. Yellow-Can be thrown much higher, and are capable of using bombs. Blue-Can survive in water, and seem to be more efficient when carrying things.

It is up to you to guide them in just about everything they do. You can use them to fight enemies, carry parts back to your ship, and build/destroy things such as bridges and walls.

There are thirty parts in all that are missing, and you have thirty days to find them because your air support will run out. You have to be methodical in just about everything you do. The game spans across five areas, Impact Site, Forest of Hope, The Forest Navel, Distant Spring, and The Final Trial. Each different level has its own unique characteristics, and it's up to you to master them.

Graphics

Not really an improvement from the original. The graphics are still okay, don't get me wrong, but it's nothing spectacular.

Control

It's called New Play Control! Pikmin for a reason. They did a very nice job converting the original game for the Game Cube to what it is now. The Wii Remote really allows you to do more things with your pikmin than you could in the original. The camera is also very easy to control. I actually played the whole game with the Z button pressed down. It makes it a lot easier to see.

Sound

Pikmin has a great original soundtrack. The sound effects of the Pikmin at work on something is cute at first, but after a while you will find it pretty annoying.

Overall

This is a great game that you should pick up if you liked the original, or you are a fan of games that you really have to use your brain.
