its finally out, it uses the halo engine and its got zombies but is this incredibly short game un-living up to the hype?

the game opens in the newly constructed city of punchbowl a 50's view of "the future" and its kinda like life in the 50's crossed with the jetsons, theres flying cars, robots to help humans and such and overall it looks the part perfectly. the town runs in harmony for a while, but wouldnt you know it the dead have begun to ries from the grave.
or maybe just one zombie in particular.
stubbs as hes known has risen from the grave as developers have built a city over his grave, and hes not very happy. so does he file a complaint?, or write an angry letter? -hell no!, hes just gonna do what zombies do best.
and so becomes the games omnous loading sound "brains...brains!...BRAINS!!" and so on.
overall most people only heard of "zombie game 1182" because it wasmade using the halo engine. and this puzzled me how can a first person engine be made for a third person game?. the answer is simple.
its not the master cheifs engine you use to control stubbs ,rather the warthog engine, yes thats right imagine a really slow warthog that jumps like the cheif and eats brains and youve got stubbs.
now dont take that as a bad thing though, i was scepical about this game i really was, but now i can safetly say its more fun eating brains than killing zombies.
the controlls are simple one button for jump, on for melee one for brain eating and the rest are just ripping off parts of your body. the mechanics though are surprisingly realistic for such an imaginative game. you can only jump so far, as can the enemy in fact there only main advantage is numbers and speed and the numbers an be evened pretty damn quickly heh-heh-heh...
which leads to my next part of the review BRING FORTH THE ZOMBIES!!.
to make your own little undead ,pikmin -like, minion is actually very simple first beat a victim a few times with melee attacks till hes fazed and staggering then ,when the command comes up. press Y and you will eat his brains, then amble onto your next victim, while you eat your second brain you first victim will get up and make a bee line for the closest human and bite him, and so the zombie infection spreads and the circle of life is complete. that is completely screwed up.
i should also say its possible to perform a "stealth kill" by merely walking up to a human from behind and eating his brains ,the rewrd is someone elling "there setting traps now!!" or something like that, which makes the idea of instilling fear into the poor unlucky people of this town all the more satisfying.
now onto other aspects. the rip-offs, no not stuff from other games, but the parts of stubbs "king zombie" body that you can tear off and use as weapons, your hand can be torn off and it can crawl around on its own, this is best used towards the "fall of the house of otis" level, which you will have no dougbt seen in any trailers from e3 involveing a farm house, your hand can posses people alowing the use of firearms and acess to houses and such through chimneys and small nooks and crannys or vents.
which is parrt of the beauty of this game, there multpile ways to clear an area, and no i dont mean that the way the developers of far cry meant (AKA kill enemie just take a slightly different path).
what i mean is the amount of choices ,for example in one area you need to kill a group of scientists, do you A: send in your hand via the vents to posess one and shoot them, or B: Charge in and smash a large window which has a large number of zombies banging on it ala dawn of the dead.
each are satisfying in there own way, its merely your own presonal preference which allows for a more or less enjoyable gameing experience.
your guts can be thrown like plasma grenades like in halo and can stick to enemies and your head can be torn off to be rolled at enemies and set to explode with a press of the BLACK button which releases a gas that makes all the people who breath it in additions to your zombie horde.
theres also vehicles that control the same way as halos including farm tractors to tanks, yes tanks.
plus ala pikmin you can push and yell your zombies to take out explosives or get them do follow you after some stronger enemies, or as simple 'meat sheilds' although i found myself caring about my zombies and sheilding them with myself to keep them alive, i wonder what a psychiatrist would say about that?.
also theres some great minnie games like a dance off with the police (includeing complusory 'thriller'' homage') and they seem to make the game last that little bit longer.
graphics are a lot ,and i mean a LOT like destroy all humans , theres fonz look a likes police in 50s regala and women in long skirts and cardigans and blokes in jeans and 'jock' high school football team style jackets. pretty much the whole 50's vibe bt with a little worlds fair visions of the future stuff which the developers wanted anyway.
the screen is a little grainy like an old tv show or ,even at a stretch a korean horror from the 80's.
basically it suits the style of the game to a T and it lends to the experience a much more enjoyable atmosphere and works very well.
sound wise its cries of "oh god ,MY BRAIIINS!" mixed with modern remkaes of "lolipop" and "mr sandman" to name a few that made my grandma tap hr feet along with the brain eating, if that doesnt raise it by ''one notch 'o' fun'' i dont know what does.
value wise is were this game fails, all though it has a multiplayer spilt screen zombie a thon its still the same game so theres not much replay value except the idea of simply eating brains to play through a level when theres nothign on tv and all your freinds are ill.
its a fine addition to your collection and its a great game but its very, VERY short and will easily be beaten in one sitting ,so if i were you i would wait till its in a "2 for £20" deal or something, but its still a great gameing experience that fans of survival horor or b movies in general will regret if they miss it.
my final thoughts on this game are breif ,i liked it and have since replayed through it about 4 times the games easy and short but its like a final fantasy game, you wont forget it when its gone.
that said stubbs does survive at then end of the game and its called stubbs the zombie IN rebel without a pulse, so is it possible that we can expect stubbs the zombie to return in something new for the xbox 360? i for one hope so as ,in a world of cheaply made and poorely executed "revolutionairy" games, more games like this that are pure fun and memorable are just what us in the gameing community needs.
that and a version on xbox live...
