Decent RPG

User Rating: 8.4 | Neverwinter Nights Gold Edition PC
This game is a decent RPG from Bioware. Most of the characters are interactive and fun to talk to. The game is based on the 3rd edition of D&D rules. This can be kind of overwhelming at first, especially if you are like me and only played D&D when you where like 12. I kind of grew out of it. Then when I seen this game at Best Buy, my interest peaked. As I stated the rules can be overwhelming, but if you are willing to sit through it and learn as you go, it can be easy to pick up on. Any ways the story is pretty deep and involving. It starts out with your character being hired by the city of Neverwinter to figure out how to stop the wailing death. A plague ravaging the city and most of the land. As the story progresses you gain trust, are betrayed, and discover some interesting things. Gameplay is basically like KOTOR, which I happened to like. Sorry Diablo fans, no hack and slash here. So if you don't like KOTOR's style of gameplay, then you might want to skip this one. If you do like it then you'll love this game. Graphics, well they're ok. They aren't that great, they're not horrible, but not very good either. This is probably the only thing hurting the game. They look kind of dated. You have a lot of blocky characters. Which is fine with me as I tend to care more about other aspects of the game rather then graphics. Sound is pretty good. You hear moans in zombie infested areas. You hear your arrows wiz towards targets. You will hear your wizard shout incantations when he's casting a spell. You also get to choose a voice for your character which I thought was kind of cool. The best feature for this game is the mod maker. The Aurora toolset allows people to create their own RPG adventures. You can also go online with them and play with friends. It's definitely a cool feature. You basically have the power to create an RPG that could even be better then the adventure that you go on in the game itself. Overall this game is pretty good and hopefully the sequel will be even better. It has a decent balance to it. The gameplay is pretty solid. It has a pretty good story. Lastly, the replay value is definitely high. If Obsidian plays it's cards right the sequel will definitely be just as good, if not better.
