Mario ventures beyond the Mushroom Kingdom to battle Koopas across seven neighboring worlds using new power-ups like the Tanooki Suit.
Super Mario Bros. was one of the early NES games that fueled Nintendo's rapid rise to power.
SMB2 took Mario into the strange new world of Subcon and had a distinctly different feel than the rest of the series.
