Background to the review: I got the game as a Christmas present, and let me just say -- when I am home, I have a hard time putting down the controller.....and now for the review... Upon waiting for Christmas, I read a lot about this game. The gamespot rating, as we know, came out kinda low -- not letting that deter my interest, I asked for the game anyways. Now that I got the game, I def. have to disagree with the main review. While the "free roam" system could be seen as un-necessary, I see it as a great addition. Sure there are times I get sick of driving from race to race, but by having that aspect of the game, you truely feel like you are part of the world. The free roam adds to the realistic aspect of the game -- the driving around, the hidden races, the garages throughout the city, etc -- all very good concepts compared to the first installment of the game. Personally, I love the game and do not look down upon the product placement or "lack of speed" that others have complained about. To me its fine, I mean, when Im driving at high rates of speed, dodging traffic, I'm paying attention to the road, not the signs and buildings around me, lol. Out of the entire game, the only things that bother me are the story and occassional aggrevating instancances with races. What I mean by this, is the story doesnt seem interesting. The career mode itself is fine, but the way the story is told could have been different. The races on the other hand, tend to get aggrevating -- a lot of times it takes me a bunch of trys to finally win. Maybe I just am not that great at the controls, but theres something about having a lead and then getting spun out by an opponent in the last second that pisses me off. Overall, I recommend the game and know others that will tell you the same!
