Not Bad For A Shot At Racing Simulation

User Rating: 8.5 | Need for Speed: Shift X360
I play a lot of racing sim games (i.e: Gran Turismo, Forza, etc.) and when i tried out NFS Shift for the first time, I saw that this was actually a decent change of pace and quite an innovative shot at racing simulation for the Need For Speed Franchise. People familiar with racing simulators will know that you get an actual licensed selection of cars, racing them at actual locations around the world to earn money to buy more cars and/or upgrades. Rinse, Lather, Repeat. A few things that sets Shift apart from Gran Turismo and Forza, for example, are that the crashes are are a little more overexaggerated than the two, you get rewarded on your precison (nailing turns correctly, etc.) and aggressive driving rather than for damage and difficulty in Forza. Some minor annoying things in Shift are the physics are a bit wonky at times, nailing turns correctly requires much perfection in order for it to count as a "perfect turn," and the music can be annoying at times. Plus, the carrer mode is very bare-bones: Just working your way up through tiers and levelling up your driver. (Like in Forza) All that aside, if you want a little spice to racing simulation, NFS Shift is the game for you! (And no, this game does NOT rip off Forza or Gran Turismo in any way, shape, or form; there's significant differences in the franchises.)
