Alex Ward, Creative Director at Criterion talks about the Need for Speed franchise, the pride of British developers, and the future of Burnout.
Well as long as this game's got a 2+ offline player mode, it good be a drive n pick from my next store.
Speaking as a HUGE Most Wanted fan...I'm a bit disappointed @ the lack of customization (how can I tell my unique version of an Aston Martin Vanquish from an online friends?) As far as the momentum of this game..it seems like a reboot focused on connectivity and the online community (which I am all for) as for presentation, the look and sound of this Most Wanted is fresh! I'll definitely be picking this up on release. Final vote....I like it...but developers really should take into account the fans standpoint and wishes as well as trying to focus on a newer, slicker, more up to date version of a game. BRING BACK CUSTOMIZATION. THATS what made NFS: MOST WANTED...well ummmmm MOST WANTED by fans.
ok games are looking good (graphic wise) but they are getting worst and worst I've been playing need for speed since the first hot pursuit on ps1 but after carbon it has been going down and down and pretty soon n4s will be like cod old and tiring and nothing left to do but put it out of its misery
If its not broken, don't fix it. Seems as though developers don't listen to the opinions that matter...the people buying their games. The requests have been the same since 2005 yet we've bought or rented titles that for the last 7 years that leave us with the same thought in our minds. "ITS JUST NOT THE SAME". No one cares about online racing.
Mr Alex Ward(I know you're not reading this, but what the hell), you say the first Most Wanted game was more about single player? Umm yea bro, that's what made that game so great! All the focus went into the single player. I don't give a crap if you think that doesn't resonate into this generation anymore, that is a load of crap! Single player is the heart of every video game, if you dare focus into something else, you end up with a half assed game.
i dont understand why criterion wants to bring what country its made in. see im mostly pro usa i wont even by a 4 wheeler made out of country (go polaris) but when it comes to videogames i dont care i feel that if they listen to the consumers they can make a good game. but if they dont listen they cant get better.
@IEABrute I agree. Nationalism and games aren't a good mix.
there is no reason to do it because then its gonna be like yeah they made a good game screw the us we are better but then the us makes a great game and we do the same thing and there is one big feud between gamers that once were great friends and now are mortal enemies. its ridiculous they wanna pull that shit. i mean even before they said the were from england i already knew but now they want to advertise it.
I have 4 friends on XboxLive and the only games we all play together are Halo and CoD. I'm the only one who is going to be buying this game......Thanks Criterion for thinking about the solo player >.>
@Lord_Sesshywell i have a total of 30 players in my clan but i play with the people i put as head leaders of divisions, but i mostly play halo, and batlefield with them i cant stand cod no offense, but yeah i agree the dont think of the solo player, what if im tired of MP and i want to play sp, but it only took me 3 hrs to beat so know im bored WTF criterion. i think they need to make a bad assed single player then try a multiplayer.
i used to love making my cars look like ones off the movies or off the speed channels or hell off the mecum auto shows. i hate not haveing customizations if there arent any in this one im totaly giving up on NFS i hate to say it because ot i started playing video games in 2001 at the age of 4 playing 007 and tony hawk then when i was 6 i started playing NFS hot pursuit. i guess im a long life follower but they might ruin it for me
Singleplayer doesn't resonate anymore... I must be a dinosaur because that's what I care about. Screw the next generation then.
And I "hate" social/multiplayer achievements...
@Nightrain50 Allow me to join that dinosaur club hah :D
Good to see I'm not the only one... screw all this social BS
nfs is too easy nowadays. wide roads and just unrealistic high speeds. nfs underground 1 was a good game because you actually had to use your breaks lol
"Stock body"? So it WILL have customization? But some kind of simpler model? Even so, good news. Somebody can confirm (have a link)?
Singleplayer and story don't resonant with them? That's where you lose me...another Burnout Paradise clone coming up then?
This is what WE - the NFS fans - want from a game with 'Most Wanted' in the title:
1. An outlandish over-the-top story with overblown characters and awesomely badly acted cutscenes.
2. Car customisation - that means body kits, rims, spoilers, roof scoops, vinyls, decals and all kinds of fancy paint.
3. An open world that is fun to explore with maybe a few collectibles.
4. Police chase objectives that further the campaign.
5. A SINGLEPLAYER career that takes at least 15-20 hours to complete.
Now, give us all of this and THEN add all your multiplayer, social networking Autolog b0ll0cks and that's fine. Otherwise, just change the name to Burnout and be done with it.
@JangoF-76 This should be on a whiteboard somewhere around the Criterion office...
@JangoF-76well atleast somebody stood up and told them what we want but to go along with the free roam campaign i want cops driving around so i can get into random cop chases when ever i want. and we need customizations, id also like to be able to change the exhaust systems. that way if im rolling around in my mustang wether it be a shelby or a GT the car will roar to life with a deep loud smooth soud of flowmaster or the rich loud roar of borla. that would be amazing.
@JangoF-76 Pretty well said!
@JangoF-76 Exactly right mate, you've completly taken the words out of my mouth, if they want the NFS series to be as popular as it was in the days of the real Most Wanted THAT is the recipe they need to follow
I really wish that those guys open their eyes and look into the commentts of the fans!
Is it just me or are game developlers using multiplayer as an excuse not to even try to flesh out a story? I have no doubt just designing the mechanics and graphics of a game can be overwhelming, but it seems like some 8-bit games of old have more story packed in then a lot of modern games. If makes me entitled to want a lil context to the actions I'm taking on screen than so be it, but context means everything. If I don't care or have a good reason to play a game then why should I? I loved NFS1&2 for their attempts at a story, it was corny and silly but still fun to be along for the ride.
This is plain wrong, that is NOT Most Wanted that is Burnout! Don't get me wrong I love burnout but I truly want a Most Wanted experience like the "1st one" gave me a "Single Player focussed" experience like he said, I don't know if you people agree with me but I miss tuning my car to look as badass as can be and having 12hours or more of a story campain, being chased by Corvettes Z06 and Helicoters. Thats what I miss, surely I'm not saying I wouldn't buy a burnout for fun but you might as well name this game something else cause if there's something it aint is Most Wanted :( Guess this is my goodbye letter to the NFS franchise. Was fun while it lasted...
@raptorf_22 Your right, it is burnout 2 and doesn't look like nfs. Sure you would expect criterion to make racing games to feel like burnout. NFS hot pursuit depite having many burnout like features, felt NFS. Not sure about this game though, it feels more burnout, not that I'm complaining.
Maybe Criterion needs to really listen to player feedback, because a lot of people really don't care about "social" features.
@MrOnage Autolog was the most amazing part of NFS: Hot pursuit, I am very excited about this new version. If you don't feel like being 'social', just log off :\
@Gamer_4_Fun Autolog was the most amazing feature? It wasn't the gameplay? The social aspect is just an additive, the gameplay is the core element and if you thought autolog was the best part, you obviously don't play games for the same reason I do. If I want to be social with actual friends, I'll talk to them, hell, facebook even. I'm not saying they shouldn't include a multiplayer feature, I'm just saying it shouldn't be the driving force behind a developer when making a game like this. Nothing about autolog, IMO anyway, enriched my gameplay experience at all.
@Gamer_4_Fun I don't see a problem with autolog on Hot Pursuit, nor do I dislike it, really. You're right about it being in the backgraound and not in your face. The problem is when a dev mistakenly believes that a feature like this is so important to the core gameplay that it starts becoming more prominent and takes priority over the gameplay itself. Granted, it didn't really do that in Hot Pursuit, according to this guy it's the direction they want to take, though. As I said, it didn't add anything to the gameplay for me in Hot Pursuit and it worries me when I see a dev focus such attention on what was, IMO, such a meaningless feature. I never cared to have a storyline in a racing game, we agree here. I honestly enjoyed doing the challenge trees more than seeing the story play out. I would like it to "feel" like a need for speed game, however.
@lambofgod008 Obviously the gameplay was awesome, it was a throw back to classic nfs games with no bs storyline and just pure racing. The social aspect unlike most games isn't just in your face, it is layered in the background and hardly interfaces with gameplay. So regardless whether you like it or not, I don't see any problem associated with it.
Jesus christ, I am so f!@#$%^ sick of this focus on multiplayer! It has it's place, sure. But it is not the sole future of gaming IMO, and shouldn't be given more attention than SP in a game like this. Someone said earlier, that chances are, they would be playing with complete strangers in THIS game online anyway. I wish devs would quit trying to push this concept on everyone. Not everybody has to always be online talkin' s@#$ to others and receiving s#$% talk while they're playing their games.
@Dracolu01 There WILL be customization in the game.
@Dracolu01 If you look through the footage from EA's Gamescom demo, when you see times being compared with other driver's on the player's friends list, you see that things like their tires, suspension, chassis and a few other bits get listed to associate with that player's time. So it looks like you can customize your car for street tires, stiffer suspension, lighter or sturdier chassis and the like. I'm guessing this is more of a set up setups to optimize your car for a particular event instead of kitting out your car with a supercharger and some magnesium rims, but at least its some suggestion of getting your car working exactly how you want it.
@Dracolu01 That is my main concern too... need to see some customisaton detail !
im wondering the same thing
yes and no. i rather have need for speed meet test drive unlimited 2. where you have groups of racer and such(more test drive unli 2) aspects. instead of most times it ai car drivers
Look lol, I am liking the way the game is headed, have no problem with it, Just give me some customisation from adding rims, spoilers, bumpers, hoods, engine sounds 'yes lol' and give me a full featured paint system somewhat like Trackmania and Forza......Your talk about personality, then give me that option to style the cars the way i want, so when im online i stand out.....please :-)
