Excellent presentation, but horrible gameplay.

Well, I've got some good news and some bad news. But I'll give you the good news first. The presentation in this game is excellent (almost). The imitation of ESPN's and CBS's television effects and graphics are spot on. The commentary is usually accurate (unlike the NCAA Football game, where you get a 40 yard pass and hear Herbie say "... and he's tackled for a loss...") and the statistics are accurate. You feel like you're really watching a basketball game on one of these channels. But therein lies the bad news. You feel like you're watching the game, not playing it (almost). The controls are down right terrible. When you hit the shoot button you never know if your player is going to take a jumper, go for a dunk, drive to the hole, layup, fadeaway, or do a spinning, falling, over the shoulder hook shot. It is near impossible to position your players feet properly as there is a 0.5 - 1.0 second lag between input and player action which very noticeable on defense (don't bother covering guards with the ball) and attempting to take 3's (half your 3's will be on the line or 7 ft behind it). All you have to beat a man is run back and forth 2 or 3 times and then just run at him, because he won't try to stop you (either than or your dribbler's body will pass through his). Players wont swat down passes that go right by them, posts keep their backs to the ball carrier so any drive you have will go straight to the house. And don't even think about fouling late in a close game. To intentionally foul a player you must first get control of the player with the ball, then get within 3 feet of that player, and finally hold the BACK button for about a full second. If you foul him, lucky you, if not then you must manually change your player control and repeat the process, because none of the other players will lock down on their man (despite your pressure setting or if you have a full court press) or foul them even though you aren't the one controlling him. So all your buddy has to do is pass it between 2 guys until the clock runs out. Too bad, you lose.

Don't bother getting this game, which is too bad because since there are no more 2K college basketball games. Wait for next year's version. Or better yet, till 2K sports makes one again. Or ever better yet, buy a used copy of College Hoops 2K8 and visit this website where some guys have finished the current rosters for most of the major conferences - http://www.operationsports.com/forums/college-hoops-2k-rosters/306904-xbox-360-2009-2010-roster-project.html
