This was an important game for me. Not only because I'm a huge basketball fan, but because this was my conversion game. I use to be a Live guy. My friend recommended it so I figured I'd try it. It was much better than Live. Gameplay is great, although not necessarily as realistic as it should be. Of course, one of the the worst things about all sports games is the commentary. After about the first month or two of playing, you'll start memorizing the announcers' lines. The shot stick is great, again this is my first 2K basketball game, so I'm not sure how much better this was than 2K8. I play every day, and never get tired of it. I like, the DNA part too, and the daily updates, but I prefer doing my roster updates manually. I go on NBA.com and if there's anything new I update it. So the game is definitely worth your money and will last a long time. Of course most people including me, like to buy the newest version but if your on a budget this'll do. The percentage of shots your allowed to make is way too high, even on Hall of Fame (which to me is the only way to play). I find myself not afraid to take half-court shots and whenever I play against someone and they often quit quit because it takes the fun out of playing. I'm a Suns fan, so obviously, that's my specialty team. Quite frankly, Steve Nash is just nasty, or as I like to say "Nashty". He's virtually unstoppable and I don't quite like being able to over power centers and power forwards. Like anyone I love to win, but I like reality. I don't think that the signature player moves are really signature. In fact, the only thing in the game that is exclusive to a certain player is Vince Carter's Honey Dip Dunk. Everything else is normal for everyone to do. I think they fixed that in 2K10 (LeBron's Chalk Toss, Wade's Basket Pull-Ups, etc.). All the game modes are great, except I don't quite enjoy the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest. It shouldn't be held in Rucker Park anyway. I recommend this game to any basketball fan. I can't wait for 2K10, its only second to Modern Warfare 2 on my game list. Its pretty hard not to mention 2K10, since its going to be a newer version, but this game is awesome.
