NBA 2k2 was a great game for its time and really solidified the series as a multiplatform game.

For many consoles owners the 2k series of games was a new experience in 2001. That's because it had lived on the Dreamcast before going defunct. In a way the fall of the console was a blessing for the series as it was able to find a greater audience and rival it EA Sports counterpart, NBA Live. In essence, it brought the spirit of the game of basketball to consoles around the states. Gone were many of the old conventions of older basketball games. For instance, defense was actually played and was a possibility. Post moves were also more reasonably featured with big men style of play. Overall, it took the free balling, unstoppable style of offense away from video games and helped establish a more balanced game. In did have its downsides though. Three point shooting was far to easy for such a game. Hitting eighty percent, even while unguarded is simply not expectable. However, despite this NBA 2k2 brought an ere of realism that basketball video games had been lacking for years before.
