Im horrible at this game...

This game is really hard to get into for me. I'll preface this with, I really enjoy 2k11. It took me a little to get used to the passing mechanics, but it was one of the best basketball games I've played.. Looking at all the reviews for 2k13 I was pretty stoked with how real all the animations looked and the new isomotion moves.

That being said, I havent even won a game yet. It seems like the defense mechanics are really hard to master, and its a little harder to set picks for give and gos. I checked out MyCareer and am probably 20 games in and avg. 4 pts 3 rebs 1 ast. I guess I need more VC to boost my attributes, but man, this is a grind. Does this game get any easier? I really want to enjoy 2k13, but I'm finding it hard to find time to grind through MyCareer and really enjoy it.. Any advice to step my game up?

what kind of player is he? is he a 3 pt specialist? i had this same problem when i started my career but i eventually started over amd chamged my player to a three pt specialist. this made him a good scorer but he couldnt dunk the ball or drive the lanes really well, however those are things that can be worked on later.

My dude is an Athletic SG/SF.. I mostly play the SF cause Harden is SG. Anyways, I'm not a 3 pt specialist, but I did take the Bird and Stockton tutorials. I also have Deadeye and AnkleBreaker sigs.. I'm getting used to the gameplay though, just wish my guy was quicker and could actually hit Mid-range shots like he's supposed to.. Layups and dunks are at an average level due to athletic style of play.. As much as I'm not that great right now, I can't stop thinking about playing this game all through the work day. I'm obsessed, just like I remember I was when 2k11 first came out. I guess just with more playing time, I'll get better, it's just discouraging when I read posts of MyPlayers who are starting by game 20 and avg. double-doubles.

NBA 2k13 requires alot of time the more you play the game the more it rewards, for example if you play 5 games online without quitting or beating your opponent so badly that he quits before the end of the second quarter you get 250 times 5 which equals 1,000 vc right there. Which is key to improving your myplayer, also my player blacktop gets you 150 vc for every completed game. So the more you play only honestly its easier to get your myplayer up there, improve the shooting first. Worry about the dunk last. As far as playing online theres alot of kids with mics that are serious about the game so your basically two yrs behind and with the new physics engine contact layup thing shots you used to think were guaranteed will go clanking off the rim like easy layups. For example last year you could just dunk over people with durant, this year you have to kind of dunk around them. My tip to you would go into practice and learn how to shoot the ball first, if you can master the mid range jumpshooting online you always have a shot. Play a 3-2 zone and let the computer do the majority but not all of the defending. And understand online its all about balance and momentum. So keep your players shooting while being physically on balance and try to control the momentum of the game itself. If you need to play slow at first to get good shots thats fine but dont just hoist 3 pts aimlessly. Use that midrange it will get your players hot and just find one team to stick with at first master the individual players move. Im no expert but im pretty decent at the game.
