I had this 360 mad catz gamepad that broke. I forgot that mad catz makes bad quality controllers. I am going to get another controller soon.

Wired Xbox 360 controller is hands down the best gamepad for a Windows PC.

Very nooby question, but if I got either a 360 or ps3 controller connected to my pc via usb, would I be able to play instantly or do I have to install some special driver of some sort?

If you get a PS3 controller you'll need to download the Motioninjoy PS3 tool and make sure your pc can connect via Bluetooth.
If you get a 360 controller, make sure it's wired, or else you need the wireless controller adapter. Either way, you won't need anything else, the drivers download automatically.
