Great game. EA finally introduces squad-based racing into the NASCAR games and makes it worth the money and the wait.

User Rating: 9.3 | NASCAR 06: Total Team Control PS2
NASCAR 06: Total Team Control has to be the best NASCAR racing game by EA to date. The introduction of squad-based racing into the game offers a more realistic look into how multi-car teams cooperate during races. EA has also added the Pocono track in NASCAR 06 that was missing in NASCAR 2005. The Share Draft and Intimidator feature also make a return in NASCAR 06. There are several different modes of play in the game. In Dodge Challenges you have to complete challenges based on real-life scenarios, completing them earns you skills points which will be discussed later in this review. Another mode is called Dodge Speedzone in which you complete tasks like blocking, drafting, passing, and time trials and you get awarded either a bronze, silver, and gold medal depending on how well you do. There is also season mode in which you can race an entire season in the Nextel Cup, Busch (called National series in the game), Craftsman Truck, and Whelen Modified Series. There is also the Race Now mode which allows you to do a single race. Another mode is Chase for the Cup mode in which you race in the last ten Nextel Cup races of the season and try to win the championship. Finally there is the career mode, called Fight to the Top. In Fight to the Top mode you start out in the Whelen Modified Series and work your way up through the Craftsman Truck Series, the Busch Series, and finally the Nextel Cup Series. You also have the option of buying and running your own team in any series. The squad-based racing feature in NASCAR 06 can be controlled in two ways. The first way is by using the right analog stick to select which teammate's car you want to communicate with and then choose the command that you want your selected teammate to follow. You can even swap cars which allows you to move the whole team up the front of the field. The second method is using a USB headset that allows you to say commands so you don't have to use the right analog stick. There are also more options to choose from when using the headset compared to using the right analog stick. Skill points is another feature in NASCAR 06. You get skill points from completing Dodge Cahllenges, getting medals in Dodge Speedzone, and various things during a races such as leading, sharing draft, clean passes, etc. These skill points are then used to unlock plates. Tracks, drivers, paint schemes, and Create-a-Car sponsors are things that can be unlocked by purchasing these plates. Unfortunately, as with any game, there are things about a game that are not perfect. My only major complaint is that the sense of speed is not that great. You may be going 190 mph at a track and it may seem like you are going slower than that the way object are coming towards you. Other than that I see nothing majorly wrong with this game. NASCAR 06: Total Team Control is an great game and I recommend that anyone who wants to get a NASCAR game should get this one.
