Can we Unlock Sasuke through Communications Battle?

Can I unlock Sasuke by winning a battle against someone with the same game like communications battling. (Not WiFi).

My brother and I both have the game and we wanted to know if we could still get character from just battling each other? Like Sasuke Uchiha, we need Sasuke Uchiha to get the Sharingan Tag.... Can anyone tell us if we can do it that way?
