Virtual Console folds over for Mario

Europe's Wii owners have two more games available to them via the Virtual Console; Paper Mario and Air Zonk.

The gaming world's main action may be taking place at E3 in Santa Monica this week, but back in Europe, Nintendo has released two new games to join the previous 109 already available on the territory's Wii Virtual Console.

First up is Paper Mario, which made its debut on the Nintendo 64 in 2001. The mustached plumber becomes as thin as a piece of paper during one mission to free the Star Spirits from Bowser, in a move that Nintendo says makes "the link between 2D and 3D like never before."

This week's second release is Air Zonk, a shoot-'em-up that was released in 1994 on the TurboGrafx-16. The titular hero forms Team Cool with his friends to take on King Drool, who is intent on conquering the world.

Paper Mario is available now for 1,000 Wii Points (approx. £7.50) and Air Zonk comes in at 600 Wii Points (approx £4).

    @chisoxrule: Not to mention, when they do post the news articles, it's typically a few hours after they're up.

    Every monday we get new games at exactly 12pm PST and THAT is how I found out about Paper Mario.

    It really can't be that hard to just turn on their Wii and check the store, can it?

    They haven't put up a news story for NA virtual consoles yet. I'm disappointed that they haven't. For once I found out first on Nintendo.com. Who would have guessed!

    Finally an N64 game worth downloading since I already have Mario 64(DS) and Zelda OoT(GC disc). The others are "meh...". Yes as Miracle_Air said, whats the deal lately with GS updates on VC? They've been getting very lackadaisical lately even before E3 started.

    Paper Mario is stateside on the VC today for those people who don't know.

    And god damn gamespot, get your **** together and just make a quick news post about it... Did E3 really tire you out or are you guys just lazy?

    wow, i cant believe paper mario has recieved such a high score after so many years. in fact, its the highest rated game on the wii to date, but hopefully metroid prime 3 or SSBB will change that...

    @AlphonseElric23:
    Actually, regardless of what content owners tell you (because they'll spread all sorts of misinformation when it's to their benefit), it is legal to own backup copies. You own a license to that content, not the physical medium, meaning you can shift it to any format you want, you just can't distribute it to anyone without a license. A lot of software has an EULA that forbids this, but copyright law itself doesn't. In a lot of cases those EULAs have been ruled unenforcible on top of that.
