After countless games produced under the "Super Robot Wars" titles, an original Gundam RPG comes to the US. Not an adaption of an existing series, but a completely new storyline using the mecha from different series for a brand new experience.

Gameplay is your standard RPG formula with a bit of mecha thrown in. Travel around in your selected mobile suit with random encounters every so often. Enter a town and travel as your pilot (by default, Tristan) to experience the human side of the story. The mechs can be customized from the shoulders to the legs to the weaponry, allowing you to create anything from a GM with Gouf arms or something outragiously original. If you've played RPGs before, you're probably used to this formula already. If you haven't, take the time to learn how it works. Most fights tend to be overly difficult however.

Graphics are a double-edged sword. The mecha, while animated excellently, are depicted in a super-deformed style while the humans appear in a normal style. The mecha are faithful to their original designs. The humans however, have a somewhat strange and unusual look to them. Despite these quirks, the game looks and moves clean.

Sound is seperate between music and sound effects. Most sound effects can be recognized from various-past Gundam series such as sword slashes from a Gundam saber or bullet bangs from a Zaku machine gun. The music is original to the game, although it is considerably well done. The characters rarely speak to the dialogue, although when they do, it is considerably poorly done.

Despite a relatively quiet release and a somewhat thrown-together storyline, the game is considerably fun. If you're a gundam fan, or you just enjoy a decent RPG, pick it up the moment you see it.
