Stunning Sequel

User Rating: 9.3 | Mortal Kombat II ARC
Mortal Kombat took the arcades by storm back in 1992, due to its graphic violence and well-done graphics. Well, after an ongoing controversy, it returns in 1993 with a stunning, jaw-dropping sequel. In this game, you are offered most of the characters in the first game (except Sonya and Kano), plus new characters, Reptile, Kitana, Mileena, Jax, Baraka, and Shang Tsung. There are several well-designed stages and well composed music that goes along with the feel of them, a dark Outworld style feeling.

This also marks the debut of Dan Forden's "Toasty!" face that slides if you do a "Toasty" uppercut. The fatalities are much bloodier, the attacks are bloodier, and there are more stage fatalities (The Dead Pool, the Pit II, etc.). You are also offered some good cheats you get from the game (unlocking Galaxian and Pong, etc.). There are hidden fighters in here too (Smoke and Jade, Noob Saibot, what about Scarlet and Shawn? Or Blaze and "Hornbuckle, and maybe the long-rumored "Ermac"). But it's very hard. The opponent could anything you could, and you can't. Once you get higher, you can't uppercut your opponents that much, since they either do it to you, or throw you. They also block too much (come on, they should fight like a champ, not a whimp), and once you reach Kintaro, total frustration comes out. But most of all, if you are very good at it and can master it, Mortal Kombat II becomes a very fun and challenging video game masterpiece.

This is a near-flawless victory.
