A nice port for the MK: Deception, despite some flaws.

User Rating: 7.5 | Mortal Kombat: Unchained PSP
I never liked Mortal Kombat latests installments since Deadly Alliance, mostly because I hated the big changes in controls(Made after the "sucess" of MK 4), but i found in Unchained something that was amiss in it's consoles counter parts. Here we go:

Graphics 7/10: I will not go much further here since this game is a conversion and just for comparations sake i'm throught the changes. Despite the fact that for the hardware sake the textures of the game have been nerfed, the games shows solid animations and models, without suffering big drawbacks on being portable, at first glance looks equal to the Deception, only when you look closer you see the difference. The scenarios gives great impressions especially when observating the many effects in the background(Like many bodies chained to the ceiling moving in the constance of the wind; poetic isn't it?) what makes solid in this concept, but somehow shallow if you are to keep your eyes on every detail on it.

Sound 8/10: The music is well made, and really puts up some atmosphere to the fight in a "mortal" fashion, mixing rock and some unplugged vibes to the court. The voice acting of the chars are decent, but somehow you don't feel that you are controling a fighter but a doll with damage button in it's chest(same scream for each character no matter where you hit). The damage attacks sound a bit generic yet it have well sync and should be no trouble at all(only for blasted nerds...like...me?O.o).

Gameplay 7/10: Here we got some complain from what could be saw. The controls focus so much in pre-ordered combos that you don't have much freedom in making you own, wich was a good aspect in early installments, but despite that, the same controls answer well even with the analog-stick( target of many complains about gameplay in many titles of the PSP), and are easy to get over with. The game offer many modes that are quite entertraining, especialy in multiplayer modes( Puzzle Kombat is funny, while Chess Kombat is a interesting/innovative mode). Endurance mode may please hardcore players while they test their skill to the edge and Konquest mode, despite not making much for a beat-up game, makes a great appeal in the games inner lore.

Replay 8/10: The good aspect of fighting games is that you hardly get bored easily with a big rosster, and since Unchained offers about 30 characters to play with, each one with it's own styles of fighting(2 martial arts and a weapon), you will spend a good time crushing opponents heads. There's also a bunch of content do be unlocked, called "The Krypt"(Alternates costumes, artworks, sketches, bios and more), wich might make the player go after more stuff in game. Konquest unfortunally is good in one shot, but might not be so attractive in a second opportunity, making better to go in arcade mode and make your money(for unlocking stuff in "Krypt") by that way.

Overall 7.5/10: Mortal Kombat Unchained offers a lot to the player in terms of modes and stuff, and while the game play may not look good at first, it will surely become less crude over the time as the player might adapt to the analog control on PSP, and as such it deserves to be bought and played, despite some flaws makes a solid 3D fighter on the portable
