Back with a Vengence!

With John Tobias gone and the MK team dishing out nothing but ports, Mortal Kombat disappeared from the gaming scene for a while. It was hard to believe that such a phenomenon was over. Then in 2002, Ed Boon surprised everyone with the announcement of Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance!

After years of torture by the ninja spectre, Scorpion, sorcerer Quan Chi escapes the Netherrealm. Upon his escape, he comes across the mummified army of the Dragon King. Needing someone with soul transplanting abilities, he creates an alliance with the treacherous Shang Tsung. With their combined strengths, they kill both Shao Kahn and Mortal Kombat Chanmpion Liu Kang. Without Kang, all seems lost. However, Raiden still sees potential in the remaining Earth warriors.

MKDA brings new life to the series. Many favorite fighters return, along with new faces. Each fighter has two unarmed fighting styles, along with one weapon style. This time around, weapons can't be dropped. A new mode is introduced called Konquest mode. In it, players will learn the many combos and attacks for each character while learning the MKDA story. A Krypt is also added, where players can purchase new fighters and extras.

The graphics for Deadly Alliance are excellent! They give the characters a new dimension of personality. Even the ninja characters are given their own looks. Faces of the fighters will be bloody and scratched during battle.

Controls are finally new! Using real fighting styles, characters will use complex combos to bash around their opponents. Combos are a bit complicated, yet simple. Those new to the series can get a real feel for it.

Sound isn't a real issue in MKDA, but you could really care less about it.

Some of the secrets in MKDA include two secret fighters. Blaze is a fire elemental whose mission is to monitor the realms. Mokap is a CGI specialist who works with Johnny Cage. Both can be unlocked by completing Konquest mode. They're great, but don't have any fatalities of their own.

If it wasn't for this game, MK would have vanished for good. Those who loved Deception and Armageddon should pick up this little morsel.
