A mediocre port of UMK3. Best for a need to kill on the go!

User Rating: 8.3 | Mortal Kombat Advance GBA
MK Advance does its best to revive UMK3 for the Game Boy Advance and it does a good job. Although it definitely doesn't match up to its original, it will do on the go when you might need to rip someone limb from limb without reprecusion.

The graphics have seriously been downgraded. Many of the effects like Nightwolf's Shadow Charge has no trailing effects. But this can be overlooked if you've never played any of the MK 3 games. The amount of arenas are small and are decent considering its memory budget. Everything is in color, but Noob Saibot did have an outline in its original, here, he's all black like a shadow.

The roster is a bit more advanced because using Kodes may have taken up more space so Classic Sub-Zero, Mileena and Ermac are unlocked from the start. Rain and Noob Saibot, once hidden unplayable fighters, are unlocked here as well. And upon completing a certain tower, Human Smoke, Motaro and Shao Kahn can be played.

The sound is repeated in all arenas, I think. But you're mainly focusing on battle, not annoying MIDIs. All of the characters sound the same when hit.

There are options, as always, to disable blood and gore in this game. You can also change contrast, sound, difficulty.

Even though I got this as a little Christmas gift, I'd say this is a worthy buy nonetheless. Where else can you kill people on the go?
