MK3 was a nice upgrade from MK2. More characters, better graphics, and better sound make this game a blast for the arcades. However, the gameplay did not stand on par with that of MK2. Most of MK3 felt almost exactly like MK2 with better graphics and levels, and there wasnt anything new about the game. Shao Khan was still the boss, and the new characters just got old real fast. The graphics were a bit cleaner, but it seemed like the game got a little less violent. Fatalities, for example, didnt seem as cruel as MK2's, and some of them were recycled from MK2. On the animation side, the game seemed a little choppy when things heated up, but stayed at a smooth framerate for most of the time. Gameplay wise, the only thing thats new is the combo system, and you could have up to 5-6 hit combo's if you are new to the series. This is not a hard game to play, because most of the characters handles pretty much the same. Overall, people who checked out the classic 2D MK's, should check out this game...although its not as good as MK2, think of this game as more like MK2.5
