This game is by no means easy, nor is it forgiving even in the least. Try a few hours before committing to buying.

I have played, counting the first, second, and third games of the monster hunter freedom series for the PSP, about 500+ hours. This game is by-far one of the most amazing gaming experiences I have ever enjoyed on any platform. The first and most important thing to keep in mind with this game is to find a friend to play with, and fast. Once u spend the first 40-100 hours beating the single player quest sequence, you're either up for some VERY difficult fighting, or you're going to need a friend, or two, or three. Playing with other people will greatly enhance you're experience, however it will require some planning. Firstly, you must prepare for you're quest, make sure you bring the necessary supplies (IE. potions, mega potions, herbal medicines or antidotes, whetstones, flash bombs if you need em, etc, etc). Also you may want to consider what weapons you're hunting party is going to be using. A hunting hammer, is always a good choice considering party buffs greatly increase you're effectiveness. However, having two greatswords both going for the same weak point, one of the two hunters is going to be spending alot of time flying through the air or on his ass. A gunner is near-always a good choice, but if you're fighting something that hits really hard, having a gunner, which has less defense, may not be too smart. Then of course, there are armor skills and decorations to worry about. In this game there are ALOT of different armors to make, they can come in full sets, or you can mix and match and add various armor decorations to create you're own set with the desired effects. You can gain ESP, which will allow you to cut through ANYTHING, you can gain artisan, which will increase the sharpness of you're weapon, you can gain guts, which will allow you to survive one killing blow. There are a multitude of challenges you can attempt in this game, from quests you must do naked, to a giant floating squid-island hybrid. Most reviews for monster hunter freedom (2 and unite included) instantly trash for its "bulky camera controls". People always want a lock-on feature, you are being lazy, all you have to do is curve you're index finger into a somewhat hook-ish form over the D pad, its really awkward and uncomfortable to begin with, but after a few hours, it becomes second nature, and now you're free to play the game to its fullest.
