I stopped playing 2 years ago, but I don't remember facing this difficulty when I was using HBG before
I know that the difference of damage between HBG and Bow is huge, but I didn't expect it to be this huge.
I'm playing again, starting from scratch, hoping to finish the game once again, this time strictly using bow, I'm currently on 4* guild and elder quest. and things are starting to slow down, it takes me 30-ish minutes to kill something at this rank (except for kut-ku)
am I doing something wrong? I esp. find it very long to kill shogun caenatur and Plesioth. (I use raw-pierce type arrows against this guys, I'm not sure whether raw-pierce or thunder-rapid is better.)
is this normal to bow users? or am I doing something wrong?
PS. in these 30-ish minute runs, I only use power coating, I dont use poison and/or sleep+bomb, is poison/sleep+bomb essential to a bow user?

The early elemental bows you should shoot for are:
Fire: Kut-ku Stave series
Water: Daimyo Warbow series
Thunder: Sonic Bow series
Ice: Blango Furbow series
Dragon: Black Bow series.
If you want to go Raw:
Rapid: Hunter Bow series
Piierce: conga or cean series
(this are early game like village quests).
If your bow can use sleep/poison coatings use them cause they can cut time especially early game. Always aim for weak spots to compensate for bows lack of damage and you can can do them easily and see the power of bows in hunts at most 10 mins ie. taking down Ian+Los in 12minutes w/ 3mins wasted finding Ian after beating Los in 5 mins and Kirins in 5-6 mins (in rank appropriate gear too)
I'm pretty sure these guides/sites will help you more than reading my long post:
minegarde.com/wip/weapon2.php?w=bw(bow weapon trees and more)
http://www.gamefaqs.com/psp/943356-monster-hunter-freedom-unite/faqs/57883(bow damage guide w/ shot damage hit zones for monsters)
Again sorry for the long post and I'm still new to bow too just at 6* elder but I hope this post helps. :)

unlike HBG, there is really no drawback in choosing elem bullets or raw bullets, except for the shot type
there were monsters that I didn't want to gun, I just forced myself because I made a bet with my friend:
"first one to finish the rewards in guild card wins"
there were rules, and the special rule in my case is I'm only allowed to main HBG
my friends was only allowed to main GS
it's not really a match (GS vs HBG), and I lost the bet xD

Sonic Bow II(180 raw, 120 thunder) vs. Dragon bow Halo(192 raw, 140 thunder)
It would seem Halo would be better in all aspects but if you look at their charges Sonic bow's 3rd charge is Rapid Lv. 3 while Halo's is Pierce Lv. 2(too bad it isn't Lv. 3).
So Sonic bow would be better against small-medium size monster w/ easily reachable hitzone like tigrex and hermitaurs/ceanataurs while Halo is better on plessy because it big and has long weakspots shoot from head/neck to stomach and its gg.
