You haven't played adventures if you haven't played Monkey Island series.

In the days when people were playing their Super Nintendos and Sega Megadrives, gaming had certainly come a long way on the home video game consoles. However, to truly find the best games with the best graphics one had to look towards the PC market.

Lucas arts was one of the great gaming companies that came about and led the way with many adventure games, not forgetting of course the Star Wars games from the director George Lucas.

Point and click adventures really began to shine in the early 90's and the series of Monkey Island games with their cool graphics, incredibly funny jokes and brilliantly engrossing story lines became the benchmark for all others to follow. I in fact started with Monkey island 2 and was then simply amazed by the graphics. Ok, they were blocky compared to today's incredibly smooth graphics, but what the developers and designers had to play with then, compared to now, truly showed their ability to get the most from what they had.

More importantly compared to today's games, the gaming industry then was really about gamers creating great games that at the time did have good graphics, but far more importantly great story lines. Monkey Island 2 really should be on anyone's list if they like good adventure games in which you have to utilise the old grey matter. I've put this as hard because some of the puzzles will require a great deal of thought. These games are the type of games where you have to find one object in order to get past a puzzle which very possibly will include combining it with another in order to make something that won't automatically spring to mind.

Monkey Island 2 Le Chuck's Revenge has been revamped with crisp graphics in order to appeal to the "eye candy" generation who won't touch a game unless it looks good (kind of sums up relationships doesn't it). I'll still go back to the older games, purely for playability and having to think, unlike most of the current crop of gorgeous graphics, zero gameplay series of games.

Trust me, Monkey Island 2 is possibly the best in the series although don't let that detract you from the others. I'd give this game a 10 and the others 9 and upwards. They still, undoubtedly, take gold when it comes to the best series of point and click adventure games. Go out and buy it and I guarantee you won't be disappointed. You'll be laughing quite a lot playing this game guaranteed.
